Used to like coming here a lot, it honestly has the best bubble tea in Perth, but the past few weeks(even months) they haven’t had the basic bubble tea toppings, sago, aloe vera, etc. It makes me want to go next door to Utopia, which really is a shame because Sweetfix makes them so much better. Please get onto your shit guys I love coming in we’ve filled out plenty of loyalty cards fix your shit.

This sweet little gem is hidden away off James St. At first, I was hugely sceptical about these desserts: sweet tofu WTF? floating balls are you kidding me? But I’d encourage you to try something new. The desserts are so comforting and delicious, particularly if you’d like a nice dessert after a meal out in town or something sweet before or after a few drinks at the bar. It’s super laid back with plenty of little booths to chill out, like a dessert oasis. Try the tofu fa(lightly sweetened custard) or the tang yuan(black sesame balls which are made of a soft slightly chewy glutinous rice flour dough filled with sweet sesame paste).

It has all sorts of Asian desserts, including ice kachang, tau fu fah(soya bean desserts), ice creams(home made of course) — durian, green tea, black sesame ice cream(all homemade) and of course bubble teas. It’s small place, decorated with brightly coloured stools and mismatched furnishings. The décor is nothing spectacular, perhaps a little tacky, but the area is chilled, relaxed and comfortable. I had the green tea ice-cream and unlike other places you can actually taste the green tea powder — matcha action-packed! Finally found one that reminds me of Tokyo! and topped with red bean it was just the right sweet fix that I needed. In fact, I thought it was rather generous serving of ice-cream for about $ 3.50-$ 4.00. 2 big scoops. Little cousin got the ice kachang minus the cream corn. The ice was nice and fine and wasn’t too chunky so you don’t feel as though you were eating big pieces of ice — so props to that. It had this really strong banana flavoured smell through it though(do not like banana flavoured things. just the smell and taste is so artificial. well duh!). Not bad though, and cousin reckons sweet fix does one of the better ice kachangs. Overall, Sweet Fix provides you with a nice Asian dessert fix without a huge expense and without the massive lines seen at Meet Fresh. It’s also more chilled and relaxed and you don’t feel rushed, nor is it noisy. So why not get your sweet fix on?

I’ve been here a few times. Truth be told bubble tea is not an easy thing to make, an a bubble tea artist(if I can call them that) is in my opinion like a barista. The most important thing that look for in bubble tea is consistency. That I have not been able to find here, because maybe different people made the beverages on separate occasions. The mango milk tea was(ironically) consistently bland in my three visits. The smoothies I had were overtly sweet in the three visits I went. I had lychee and mango smoothies on the different visits. Service was good but slow. S-l-o-w. They are getting 2 stars because they have on my two visits there, did their best to make up for the slow service. I was given a free brownie for the first long wait. The 2nd time I was there(went back because of the good service), a middle aged man managed to mess up my order, not once but twice and I ended up getting my 1st and 2nd beverage(partner’s) with a 20 minute gap! Unacceptable! So the man was polite and apologetic about it. He wrote me a card for a buy 1 get 1 free, and to cut a long story short, I went back again and the milk tea was bland and again the smoothie way too sweet. The décor is loud, gaudy even with communist chinese-sque murals. And they’ve got a tv playing Asian music videos if that’s your cup of tea! PS: One saving grace is their Bubur Chacha, Bubur meaning porridge and Chacha as in the dance, it’s a sweet creamy dessert with a coconut milk base filled with goodies like sago, sweet potato and taro. You can give that one a try! ;)
