With everywhere closer to the city packed(yay, fringe!), we thought we’d stop by the recently rebranded café. The interior is comfortable and the vibrant atmosphere takes you away from the busyness of William Street. We ordered a quick bite, needing to be out within an hour for our show. The pork bao was delicious — one of the best I’ve had in Perth. They did however miss our second main, so we left a little disappointed as by the time it was corrected we had to leave. Will be back to try more food, but will definitely triple check the order next time!

I ended up here after schlepping to 24hr Phở because the waiter there told me they do a vegetarian phở(they don’t). So craving noodle soup or at least noodles in the authentically Asian & therefore non veg-friendly Northbridge district I ‘settled’ for Joy café because I liked the owner & there were a lot of Asians eating there. Fried noodles with tofu & vegetables were simple but perfect, the veg fresh & juicy and a very healthy, doggy bag worthy, sized serving. The home made chilli sauce was amazing(not fish flavoured) and I love the staff & vibe here. Nothing trendy about this place just good fresh food & a lovely owner. I’d probably be a regular if I were here for longer.

Joycafe is customer focussed with key attention to hospitality and the drive to present a very comfortable dining experience. With respect to the food produce we tried the yam roast duck which was delicious and cooked to the right level offering a sweet savoury taste on the palette. We also ordered the steampot which was a good meal as well

My husband and I popped in here, our first time on William St(we’re new to Perth). Im not one to be easily impressed but have to say their LAKSA is amazing. Not much seafood(much loke most places) and could have done with some added veg, but the broth was bang on! I make Laksa at home and the liquid was just about identical in colour and flavour. Very spicy, which is how we like it. I had the pan fried/steamed seafood gzoya which were very morish, they’re homemade chilli sauce is to die for. I asked the owner for a bit to take home, i probably would have given him 20c for the tablespoon he gave me and he actually charged me $ 1… But otherwise good food.

I greatly enjoy Asian style foods, some of my favourite places for this kind of food are in Northbridge, so when my Mum dragged me to this place, after I had tried to get her into Northbridge Chinese restaurant, it had some big boots to fill. To be honest there was nothing special about the food, just really simple and bland. The décor was poor looked really cheap. To be honest that one good thing about the place was the staff, really good service.

I’ve got to be honest here, my friend and I only went into this place because it was called Joy Café, but thankfully we had no regrets. We perused the menu while watching some awesome Singaporean(? SORRYIFTHAT’S INCORRECT) soap opera on the big TV’s all over the walls. The staff seemed to be enjoying it too. We eventually decided on a noodle dish each and some spring rolls to share because we’re all cultured and stuff. The wait time was a little painful, but at least the tight zooms on Asian soap opera stars faces made it a touch easier. When the food eventually came it was fine, a hefty serving of yummy noodles, which were nicely flavoured but nothing exceptional. Would definitely give it another shot, if only for the TV channel they have on.

Joy Café is an establishment with a focus on stir-fry meals. The meals are simple, but are done well and with the taste of food that has undergone fiery wok treatment. Joy Café is a narrow place with some booths against one side of the wall, and some tables on the other side. The décor is nothing to write home about, being on the cheap side. They have an extensive drinks menu to accompany their food — and it is one of the rare places in Perth that features both warm and cold Horlicks. Their fried noodles are excellent, with a good smattering of meat. The portions are generous, so bring your appetite. Joy Café is a good place to visit for a cheap, Chinese meal. Their owner is also quite a character, and is worth having a conversation with — he is boisterous, friendly and with a sense of humour.
