Great place for original Melbourne designs, perfect if you’re traveling overseas and want something that is unique. Also their wrapping service is amazing, the relatives really loved what I chose. I’ll be popping by soon to see what’s new.

I love chatting to Zanin, the owner(and her baby). And browsing all of the cool stuff in there! Love picking up some Able and Game cards for birthdays etc.

Kids in Berlin is a small clothing store that predominantly(if not only) stocks local designers. They stock clothes for men, women and children, and have a particularly interesting collection of jewellery and accessories. The clothing that they sell is nice-casual streetwear. I would say that their women’s clothing is more interesting than their men’s clothing(which is mostly printed tshirts and jumpers with the occasional nice structured button up shirt).

I remember first seeing Kids In Berlin back in 2005 and thinking it was super edgy, chic and unique. I am however no longer interested in T-shirts over $ 10 let alone $ 70. The stock is interesting and there is nothing else close to this niche around North Melbourne. Its a little store with a cute/friendly vibe, think Frankie magazine. Its street fashion with one/two season wear at best but is more interesting than the mass produced General Pants collections. I think the accessories and knick knack selection is what makes this store more interesting than other«boutiques». Last time I was in there were recycled bricks hand painted to resemble the spine of famous novels. Very cool idea. Wall hangings, necklaces and resin jewellery all locally produced can make nice gifts or little additions to your house/wardrobe.

Kids In Berlin is one of the many indie/rocker/vintage/cool fashion and jewellery stores in Melbourne where I find it hard to differentiate between them all. Don’t get me wrong, I like a lot of the clothes but it’s always so expensive where this type of stuff isn’t that unique any more so I feel like it shouldn’t be so pricy. There were American Apparel clothes in there for double the amount than the actual store so I can’t really justify spending my money there.

A great place to check out local, independent ‘streetwear’ designers. Who Am Eye, Artichoke, Flux… but there’s probably no point listing off label names. All you really need to know if that there’s stacks to look at inside this little North Melbourne store(one of few fashion stores in the area) and much of it doesn’t come with a WTF price tag. I picked up a pair of hand-made woven leather December Forever shoes for $ 100 last summer and went back for a scarf in winter. It’s men’s and women’s clothing, plus crafty jewellery and accessories — the kind of stuff you might expect to see at Fat I suppose. Definitely a shop worth seeking out.
