This is one of my new favorite places to go. The staff are fantastic and friendly always up for a chat. I love the fact there’s bulmers cider on tap, along with Carlton, Cascade Light and a couple of Coopers. The menu is rather basic but there’s plenty to choose from. The meals are always fantastic and are very affordable. Parma and a pot for $ 15 Porterhouse Steak $ 19 Spag Bol $ 12 Among others. Perfect place to come for a quiet weekend lunch with family or friends. Beautiful quiet pub in the city. No TAB no Pokies. Family owned and run. Good food, cold beer, good wine selection.

When I first moved to North Melbourne, the Albion was the closest pub to my house, which meant my housemates and I would sometimes find ourselves there on a lazy midweek night having a pint. Back then it was a dive bar deluxe, with a row of old codgers at the bar, a pool table, a CD jukebox and a Big Buck Hunter arcade game. It was like nothing had changed since the 90s. I can’t say we went there often, but when we were there there it was always a good time, hanging out playing pool and filling the jukebox with coins, feeling like we’d been transported to another time. A recent visit revealed that the Albion now has new owners, who’ve cleaned it up — somehow removed most of the old men, updated the jukebox to a digital system, removed ol’ Big Buck and updated the menu. It’s more inviting in some senses, but now that daggy, grubby dive-bar appeal is gone. The jukebox is actually better, with cool tunes from the 50s up to modern pop — but it’s just not as much fun pressing buttons on a new machine. Now it’s just a standard pub, and nowhere near as good as the Townie up the road.
