Decided to give this place a try recently and after being initially confused as to the location(it’s inside Veesao, the Brazilian restaurant on O’Connell St), we were pleasantly surprised! The desserts have all been delicious, are presented well and are very affordably priced. The sticky date pudding was some of the best I’ve ever had, and the miscellaneous other desserts I’ve tried in my several visits have been consistently great. The décor is great, the place has a great selection of couches and giant armchairs to sit back in and relax while you finish your night with some truly great desserts. Quiet, cozy ambiance really sets the mood for something sweet. Onyx is one of those places that I’ll keep finding excuses to visit, going so far as to plan dinner on O’Connell St purely to come here afterward. Really happy with everything they have to offer — the dessert menu is small but I guarantee you’ll find something that tickles your fancy! Did I mention the coffee is great, too?

Had been to Onyx a few times before and had always had great experiences. Even though my dessert tonight was delicious, this place now feels more like a bar than a dessert lounge as it used to be. My pot of peppermint tea took ages to come out — to the point where our whole table had finished their desserts and I was eating mine at snail’s pace hoping to still have some left to enjoy with my tea when it finally came. Service was okayyyyy, but some waiter’s need to realise it is inappropriate to directly interrupt conversation amongst their diners just to ask if everything was ok — pick your moments and at least say«excuse me». As nice as my Cuban Chocolate Square was and peppermint tea when it finally arrived, I don’t think I will go back to Onyx again.

We were tossing up between here and Devour(Prospect Rd) an opted for here after hearing that Devour was over priced. Onyx, an extension of a Brazilian restaurant, is in gorgeous settings, the décor providing a warm and welcome atmosphere. The dessert menu is small but executed with absolute perfection! The chocolate sphere was a treat to see be served, and the other dishes simply delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive and although we were in late and the last group in the restaurant at no point did we feel pressured to leave. It was a fantastic and enjoyable experience due to the food, service and affordability. I’ll be making a return trip very soon!

This is where I’d go every time I want a mind-blowing dessert ! Excellent service and guidance in choosing from the extensive range of inventive temptations, and the décor is sumptuous too.

I have been wanting to get to Onyx for a long time & while I was staying the night in North Adelaide, it seemed like the perfect opportunity!(I might’ve even left the engagement party I was at a bit early just so I could get there before they closed…) What a cool spot! I think I was expecting sleek, elegant & a tad pretenious. Instead it was bright, funky & friendly! The furniture is super cool & colourful — think couches, bucket seats & ottomans. It was all grouped together in a way that we didn’t feel bad for moving around some tables & chairs so we could get comfy. Our orders were taken promptly — I ordered a white hot chocolate & my husband had a mocha. Both came with a little biscuit on the side. Nice touch(and something different to the standard marshmallow). We shared an ice cream sandwhich which was delicious. Everything on the menu sounded amazing, even the main meals which I will definitely go back & try. They say they are open til ‘late’ — this frustrates me sometimes, as everyone has a different idea of what ‘late’ is, but we got there about 11:30pm(it was a Saturday night) and there were still quite a few people inside & they weren’t showing any signs of closing anytime soon. My tastebuds are thanking me for going to this spot, my thighs are not!

Definitely not the place to go on a full stomach — the menu is amazing and the food is so pretty you almost don’t want to eat them. Almost. But we did, and they we’re DELICIOUS! We scored a cool booth, drank cocktails and washed it all down with a glass of ozo. Definitely an adventure!

We went for drinks and dessert. Tried the raspberry crème brûlée, basil ice cream with strawberry(a nice surprise), chocolate sphere with caramel sauce, and chocolate mousse volcano. Both chocolate dishes were very rich with clever presentation. Service was attentive and friendly. Gin & tonics were served in 2 glasses, which was confusing. Since the menu offers several options for gin, we thought perhaps it gave diners the opportunity to taste their gin neat before adding the mixer.

It’s a very nice place to socialising with friends. They not only serve dessert, also lunch, dinner and COCKTAIL. Nice environment. Staff are very friendly. I guess I found everything is every nice, but desserts were average. But do recommend to check it out. Just watch out the entrance. The door is heavy and small. Even for one person, bit tight to get through.

I have been to Onyx on a couple of occasions and been very impressed with space, the food and the staff attention to detail, particularly with responding to special requests(i.e; I wanted a cocktail that wasn’t too sweet with negroni so they made me one especially — was delish!) The presentation of the desserts is amazing and the experience is a lovely one for a little splurge. Getting a ‘booth’ is quite fun, feeling tucked away with friends to enjoy your yummy treats. Will be back again!

The dessert at Onyx is amazing. It’s the kind of fancy, quality food you would expect form a 5-star restaurant. I had the Banoffee Pie — absolutely amazing and definitely a must try(Another customer came up to ask me what I ordered because it looked so good). There is a cool vibe, however, it feels a bit ‘empty’ due to the plain, open-plan set-up. The waiters and bar staff are dressed formally in suits and tie which can be a bit overwhelming if you were looking for a casual night out for dessert. You feel like you need to be dressed really well to fit in here. The menu’s are an actual electronic tablet(similar to a mini iPad) which I found a bit hard to use and read even though I am used to using my iPhone.

Nice décor, with a very tiny entrance! Prompt, friendly service. We had the chocolate sphere with white mousse and a hot caramel sauce, and the crime brûlée. The chocolate sphere is quite a theatrical dish as the waiter dashed off for the hot caramel sauce to pour over the chocolate sphere, melting the chocolate to reveal the white mousse encased within. The sphere rested on a fine biscuit crumble which added just enough crunch. The crème brûlée was ok, although a little bland, however the truffle served alongside was delicious. Will definitely try this place again and hopefully have enough room for cocktails.

Its contemporary setting has set it to be different from other dessert spots. The team is very creative in presenting the dessert. We ordered the cuban square and surprisingly, there is a tobacoo praline and radar as part of the design. Definitely not something amateur dessert chef can do. The cocktails are really special as they are categorised into 4 different category of taste. Each cocktail can match each dessert well. However, its pricing is pretty expensive and you can’t really go there often to save your wallet.
