I really liked this place. The traditional Japanese seating is fun to sit at but you do have to take your shoes off. Wouldn’t want to have smelly feet though :) Also despite what some people have said about the matcha, I could definitely taste it in my dessert. I had the signature matcha sundae — $ 10.45. It wasn’t over-powering or too sweet, which was nice. They have also launched their sake and Japanese alcohols menu. The service is fairly quick and the staff friendly. I would come back again.

Having driven past so many times, I can’t believe it took me so long to stop in and give it a try! On a quiet Friday night my friend and I stopped by. We selected ‘traditional seating’, removed our shoes and let the fun begin! As mentioned there are two seating options — western and traditional, and of course traditional is more fun, adding to the experience greatly! We found the staff to be super friendly and really attentive, giving us plenty of time to choose our drinks. I selected a matcha latte and my friend a matcha bubble tea — but there are a few non matcha options if you’re not into that(though the majority of choices are pretty much matcha based) It was a good experience and I’d definitely go back, especially if I was looking to take someone to a dessert bar with a bit of a difference!

I had never heard of this place before being taken there recently by my family. Matcha House offers different desserts and food options to what you will find in other places, specialising in Japanese tea and incorporating the teas into other items makes for a different experience and taste. If you are looking to try something different and are open to different food ideas that would wouldn’t find elsewhere, give this place a go, you will be surprised.

Friday night on O’Connell Street is definitely the place to be. After a lovely dinner and a stroll down this busy street, my girlfriends and I were in the mood for dessert. One of my friends suggested Matcha House and explained it just recently opened, so we gave it a go(and I’m so glad we did). After walking in to the small, but cozy Matcha House, we were greeted instantly by the friendly staff. We soon worked out there were two areas to this tea house. One side was a traditional seated area, where you were asked to remove your shoes and sit on pillows, where the other area was a standard seated area, with tables and chairs. While it was busy for a Friday night, we still managed to grab a good table in the standard seated area. The staff jumped right over and handed us the menus, which were FULL of exotic and unique desserts, iced teas, bubble teas and hot teas. Matcha House also do Vietnamese rolls during the day. The menu options were endless, but thankfully the staff on the night explained the menu and what the best choices were for tea and dessert, which is always helpful. I also LOVED that the extensive range of teas listed were extremely detailed with notes of their flavour and any health benefits they provided(i.e. hay fever, stress, etc.) We ordered a sweet tea(totally forgot the name), but it was the perfect addition to our waffles and sundae’s. The teas were served in gorgeous cups and we were told that free refills were available(Oh yeah, we refilled several times because we got addicted!). Overall, such a lovely experience. I’ve always been a huge fan of Japanese/Vietnamese food, but to experience a tea house that’s run so professionally and passionately, with such a great range of menu choices, I left that place feeling completely and utterly satisfied. With all the places I’ve been to have dessert, this is the next Adelaide dessert go-to! So what are you waiting for? I promise you won’t regret it!
