The Midnight Special

Cool little place, small beer list, interesting cocktail list too. The spirits and apple juice is interesting but worthwhile. Chilled vibe and $ 12 beer and hot dog specials (vego dog too)

Super cool place! The staff here is simply unbelievable… So friendly and chill. Music is blues. They do interesting Apple drinks… Most are pretty good but honestly you come here for the atmosphere and good vibes! No craft beer so beware!

What a nice, relatively unknown bar in Newtown! I wouldn’t even know of it and would have probably walked past it if it wasn’t for Unilocal.
Having read the good reviews, I bookmarked this place and decided to go when my friend and I were looking for a bar in Newtown to have a couple of drinks after our food orgy at Mary’s bar.
The bar is really small, so coming here with a big group is a big no no. I’d suggest going with a friend and grabbing a spot right at the bar — the bartenders are lovely and will make you feel right at home.
The cocktails are delicious and you can tell they’ve been made with love :) Plus it’s not everywhere that you can find cocktails with Fireball (cinnamon whiskey). Highly recommend this cocktail, it’s heavenly.

Cosy little bar, but we somehow managed to fit inside. Great vibe, relaxed, and the fresh apple juice and bourbon is a nice touch.
Only problem is everyone had to be out by midnight! Good first or second stop for the night.

And this is how I discovered Midnight Special, on my way to Cow & Moon for some ice cream on a whimsical and random Saturday night full of Yays!
Our bartender was super nice. Their thing here is all kinds of whiskey and hard liquor with freshly juiced apple. Plus beers and all the usual stuff. I had spiced rum with my freshly juiced apple. SO GOOD. I’m like so healthy, right? Its like one of my brunch green juices but with a kick, hehe. The rum and the juice cancel each other out.
Shut up. Yes they do.
They also do funky mexi-​hotdogs here with various habanero and chipotle sauces. We’re planning to come back, knock back a few «special juices» and hotdogs and hit an arty movie at the Dendy… perfect evening.
One of the other reviewers described this place as «low-​brow hipster»… perfect description. This place is chilled out, cool, definitely hipster, but no pretentiousness whatsoever. A great place to kick back with a beer or your rum and apple juice and shoot the shit. What more do you want?

Great little bar to catch up with friends or to kill time!
Bartender is very chilled and down to earth, very hospitable.
Lots of beer choices as well as wine, fresh apple juice to go with your vodka for those on a health kick ;)
First time visit and already I feel at home.
If your in the area stop by for a beer and some hot dogs.

You had me at cheap Coopers and Muddy Waters… This place is great! Very relaxed, low-​brow hipster — that’s hipster but less fancy and new. It’s now one of our favourite drinking holes in that part of the world. Don’t go there, because there aren’t many tables, and I don’t want to have to wait…

A small Bar but a great one. The owners and staff are very friendly.
Nice intimate atmosphere. There may be Hipsters.
