The service was poor, the girl looked miserable serving customers & didn’t smile at all. I had to wait almost 10mins for my entre which was pani puri something that takes 2mins to make & it wasn’t a busy day either! Masala dosa was disappointing. Way too many lentils that we’re half boiled & still a little hard. The potato was too chunky & no coriander! The dosa was crispy but is missing the authentic taste of a dosa. I’m sad

Amazing restaurant for north indian flavour palate! Walked in quite hesitantly but was blown away by the first sip of their mango lassi! Being a vegetarian usually all restaurants have few buffet choices but tamana’s had a wide range and amazing flavours! My husband and myself loved every bite of their vegetarian thali platter! Would definitely come back again! I am not giving 5stars just cause the ambience is poor its more for casual dining rather than fancy! But food is great!

Best Indian food in Newtown(or that I ever have had). Set the benchmark. The palaak paneer is amazing and they have a great range of vegan and vegetarian options.

I eat here about as often as I cook. Completely decent Indian curries served a la carte. The mango and rose lassies are recommended as well. My only complaint is that they fill the takeaway containers ¾ths of the way up with rice. I would like a better curry to rice ratio. Edit: I’ll sometimes get just curry for takeaway and make rice at home, but it’s not a bad deal even if you get rice there, just not ideal.

Tamanas is one of the few remaining unsullied King St institutions(However the mural on the wall was censored a while ago). Tasty, cheap food, great for a quick meal. We go back again and again!

OBSESSED with Tamana’s. Actually, obsessed is even an understatement. I found this place when I was living in Sydney and seriously craving my mom’s homemade Indian food. The prices here are super reasonable(super refreshing with the sometimes crazy prices in Sydney — especially compared to what the American dollar is now worth there). My go-to was always the lunch special which was two curries, rice, a garlic naan and a can of pepsi for only $ 11.90. I’d usually get the chicken palak(chicken cooked in spices and spinach) and chana masala. You get the perfect amount of food, and probably enough to even take some home. Very good and one of the best, and probably underrated places in Sydney!

Let’s get one thing straight: Tamana’s isn’t a swanky restaurant; it really is a diner. But if you’re not shallow enough to dismiss due to it’s service and atmosphere, you’re in for a real treat. This is one of my favorite Indian places in Sydney and its low price, laid back atmosphere and daytime hours make it a lunchtime favorite. There is a huge selection of authentic and delicious curries(albeit on display in a bain marie), a wide range of naans and a sawg of other delicious Indian goodies(including sweets) that one normal doesn’t come across at an Indian restaurant. So is a lack of table service isn’t an issue for you, you will not regret eating at Tamana’s, unless of course you overate(something that I do all to often when I eat there).

Tamana’s has not changed since I was in high school. By that I mean, it hasn’t changed since the 90s. Still the same average(but rather yummy) oily curries, still the same damp gooey naan, still the same take-away counter and thick mango lassi drinks in plastic containers. I get nostalgic sometimes, and going back to Tamana’s does the trick. It costs a little more than it used to, but it’s still fairly cheap. The best thing about Tamana’s is the décor: there are these marvelous Indian paintings, which include more-than-life-sized images of voluptuous women. In one picture, the woman has the most outrageously circular breasts, it’s impossible not to stare at them. I honestly can’t remember what the dahl tasted like, except that it’s unremarkable, compared to those startlingly spherical bosoms.

Just right. Now good night. Sometimes I just want to go to bed on a full stomach with some good food all wrapped up in herbs and spices. This is a well known restaurant that offers a bay marie that you can select from. Most people sit in here although take away is available. The food is exceptional, the first time I came here I got the Chicken Saag with a couple of other dishes and was truly left satisfied. It’s just a nice way to fill yourself up. If your stomach can handle the spices then you will enjoy the uplifting effect the spices will give to your bloodstream. The pictures up around the restaurant are really beautiful too. They are ancient Indian paintings depicting intimate scenes between Royalty and they are mesmerizing. The meal deals are attractive — you get to try 3 currys and rice or naan for about $ 13 – 15 depending on which ones you choose, and that’s the large size so you’re left feeling fed.

This is one Indian place that I am absolutely not fond of. It is situated right in the middle of all the shops on King’s street in the famous New Town area. One day I was shopping on King’s street when I lost track of time and realised I was hungry way past lunch time. I can generally eat Thai or any other cuisine but that time I was craving for authentic Indian food and ended up coming across this place. Even while placing the order I was not certain how it will taste and unfortunately I was not proven wrong after tasting the food. It is more like a take away place but has most things on its menu. I would not suggest this place since my experience has been pretty disastrous. However the staff at this place is well mannered and polite. There is so much potential in terms of the location and the amount of space that they have.
