We just ordered here for dinner and it was amazing! First it came super quickly, I’d say under 25 minutes which I think is a delivery record for us. We ordered the vegetarian plate, pide, and the beet root dip. Everything was so fresh and tasty, especially the fried eggplant. The portions were very generous. Overall such a great deal, we will definitely order with them again!

Delicious food. Good service. Nice ambience and beautifully decorated with tiles and pictures etc and I especially liked the music!
Quite simple but very reasonably priced and wholesome food, with plenty of care taken. Lovely staff and food served very quickly.
We loved the eggplant, haloumi, lamb pide and Mezze platter.
A perfect Monday night spot for dinner when nothing else in Sydney is open! Thank you Matee!

I will advise the discerning Mediterranean food-​lover to make the trip to Newtown just to try the food at Matee. I came across this place while at Doris & Beryl next door. Since Doris don’t do food, and we were hungry, we went to Matee to get a takeaway.
Matee have a dine in area and a separate takeaway counter. Queues at takeaway and a full restaurant looked promising while I ordered the vegetarian mezze plate for the four of us.
The result was a fabulous surprise. Instead of a tired takeaway box, the owner (I assume she is the owner) packed us a box full of fresh Tabbouleh, beetroot, and falafel, a separate box of four dips, and two baskets of bread (hot!). All delicious, all fresh, and all made four hungry girls very happy indeed.
While we waited in the queue to pick up our takeaway, we were treated to fresh spring rolls on the house!
In a city with endless options for Turkish food, Matee really stands out.

Matee is in the heart of the South Newtown foodie strip of restaurants, cafes and bars, and is one of the restaurants that’s given these three or four blocks its well-​deserved reputation.
We tried the full service restaurant experience a year ago. Shish kebabs cooked over charcoals, freshly made breads with dips and salads. .. yum.
More recently we tried their takeaway service and ordered three pides that were the best we’ve had in a couple of years. They were well cooked with tasty bases and fresh subtly flavoured ingredients. The turkish sausage was particulary good but it’s hard to single out an individual ingredient as they were all so well balanced.
Matee, like many Newtown eateries, is a family run business and the service has that level of warmth and attention without being cloying or intrusive. And they took special care with our allergy-​specific requirements — that always adds points for me.
