Absolutely pathetic. Worst coffee and avocado + toast ive EVER had in Sydney. Bread was barely toasted and was actually cold when i received it. There were globs and globs of unmelted margerine and a measly couple slivers of avocado. One piece only had a single sliver. I paid an extra $ 4 for it too. Coffee tasted like gritty dirt and milk was not even frothed. Officially the worst café ive been too its amazing it exists when theres so many good places around.

If you’re too hungry and cbf to wait in the queue for Brewtown, Hoochie Mama Café is in the next street. However it might be a gamble since the service is extremely slow and you might have already got in at Brewtown instead. Having said that it is quite a nice spot to hang out. Ample outdoor seating and the open plan interior layout is quite out of place considering the popular cramped up eateries in Newtown. SLOWROASTPORKBELLYSANDWICH $ 15.90 The pork was stringed and quite dry, the sauce brought in some much needed moisture but did not impress. The crackling was just an add-on, just like adding a potato crisp to your sandwich. Below par for that price. THEHOOCHIEDOUBLEBURGER $ 15.90 Good bun, with tender beef patty with the cheese nicely melted on it just as it should be. It does seem that the burger is trying too hard to be hipster. It is still a solid burger however not at that price, it should be priced at $ 13 max. Conclusion Average food, slightly overpriced. That premium is for your own table and space and is definitely not a foodie-destination. The speed of food could be improved. Not going back in a hurry. @thesydneynoob

I have been to Hoochie Mama quite a few times. The first time was over a year ago. It was amazing. We had a waitress with long dreads and she had the best service we had experienced in Sydney. For a long time we came three times a month and made sure we were seated in her area. The food always came out at the perfect time, just as we were nearing the end of our coffees, and it was hot and delicious with perfectly poached eggs. The coffee was to die for. Eventually she left and we stopped coming as regularly. After that we had quite a few bad experiences. Embarrassingly I told my friend how great it was so I brought her to Hoochie and it was horrible. Today it is nothing more than mediocre. The waitress does an ok job but with no enthusiasm. The coffee was average. The food was average. I just wish they would go back to the day when I would’ve given this place a 5 star rating. In all honestly if I based my score on today alone it would be less than a 3 but I still have some lovely memories from Hoochie.

Yesterday was the 2nd time we go there for breakfast. While service was good on both occasions food was a bit disappointing every time. — lumberjack omelette: it was really dry — eggs benedict: came out almost cold, eggs a bit overcooked(not runny), smoked ham didn’t tastes like smoked ham and was cold, hollandaise sauce was cold as well
