I’ve always been a blackbelt in op shopping but consignment stores are my new obsession — and 2nd Time Around is my fave. Here I’ve taken dresses, shoes and blouses that I never wear and, once they are sold(I call the store to find out), I spend my funds straight away on designer gear I could normally never afford — and stuff I could probably sell again once I’m done. You can also just take the money and run on down to the Cabin across the road for a cocktail. There’s lots of the latest season stuff here as well as brands from overseas that you just can’t get in P-town. I often spend hours here and walk out with a few high quality staples for my wardrobe. Last visit I walked out with a leopard print Gorman coat, a black Tibi cocktail dress and a summer A-line skirt from some cheaper brand I’ve never heard of. It’s not an op shop(and I’ve never seen vintage in there either) — so don’t expect super cheap stuff. But once you start getting some money in from your consignment sales and begin buying stuff for a fraction of the retail price — you’ll start to see its value.

If I’m inclined to go secondhand clothes shopping, I’ll make my way to Guildford Road, Maylands or Beaufort Street, Inglewood where op-shopping thrives. But this place? Most of the clothes in here are so camp, they’d be fine to fill up the drag box my mates and I have for a laugh, but I’m not sure about being socially wearable for a real girl. I think the owners might want to have a look through the pages of Frankie for true vintage inspiration and give Supre-type seconds a miss…

Anything that says recycled and designer catches my attention immediately not really because I’m a sucker for brands(okay maybe a little) but rather I’m a sucker for quality and at a cheap price! When I walked into 2nd Time Around at first I was a little put off looking through the clothes because there were so many and there was no organisation(yes I am a bit pedantic) and to find something you really have to dig and be patient and as patience is not my forté I only went through two racks and surprisingly found two great finds. I found a gorgeous silk blue dress from Country Roads for $ 20 and a cute mink coloured crop top with a frill at the bottom from Metalicus for only $ 25 and that was in the space of five minutes so imagine what you can find if you take your time. I saw high end clothes from Poppy Lissiman, Alice McCall, Rachel Gilbert as well as more affordable brands all for a steal. When I next have a little more time on my hands I will definitely go through 2nd Time Around slowly and carefully because I know there are lots of wonderful pieces waiting to be discovered.

There’s a fine line between«second-hand» and«vintage»(or is there?). I can’t tell the bloody difference, but I think it has something to do with one having a really bad rap while the other enjoys connotations of bohemia and extreme coolness. 2nd Time Around is a vintage/second-hand store located on Mt Hawthorn’s main drag, Scarborough Beach Rd. Full of high fashion clothes, bags & shoes, and jewellery, 2nd Time Around is a fashionista’s dream(especially one with a budget)! Prada, LV, Calvin Klein, Armani, Gucci, can all be found scattered around the store. The premises is quite large so you will be spoilt for choice. Furthermore, if you yourself have an item or two of high quality, why not bring it in and get them to sell it? As far as I know, the shop keeps 50% of the sale price while the remaining 50% is pocketed by the seller(you!). If I only had anything of value I wanted to part with, I would head straight to 2nd Time Around…
