Had their beef vindaloo. It was hit like it should be. But it wasn’t punchy or vindalooish(if that’s a term). I’ve had a lot better ones. It was a bit weak on colour and flavour. Rice was ordinary. Not usual Indian fluffy long grain that I’ve had at many Indian restaurant. It was very plain. A cardamom pod would have been good for some flavour. Maybe where the chef is from is how he cooks it and it wasn’t of the level that I was expecting based on experience. Overall. It was a nice dish.

Living in the vicinity of Magic Mint I am often salivating at the smells that come from this restaurant so finally I decided to see if the taste lived up to the aroma… thankfully it did. Upon arrival we were given poppadoms and two small dips(probably not enough for 3 people). We were all a little disappointed that the poppadoms resembled those that you can easily pick up in the supermarket rather than being of the large home made size that we have experienced in other Indian restaurants. The food we had was full of flavour and the plain naan bread simply a delicious accompaniment. All three of us were left satisfied & certainly had no room for dessert. Coupled with good service it made for a very pleasant evening.

There are two Indian restaurants in Hall St. One is usually empty and this one is usually packed. I usually start the evening with a cheeky sip at the Valley Cellardoor and then grab a bottle of goodness to have with dinner — yes they are BYO. The Chicken Jalfrezi and the Fish Curry are my faves.

Great but not fantastic. Good range of dishes and flavors are nice but didn’t take us over the edge. The staff are always lovely. The dining area is clean but not exciting.

A really nice venue with great staff and good food. Doesn’t take Amex and a little pricey for just ‘good’ Indian food. Very beautiful venue however so I would recommend it for families or group events.

What a find. A fabulous suburban Indian restaurant with superior food. The complimentary poppadum come with lovely mint yoghurt and tamarind sauce. We decided to start with well tried dishes so we opted for the chicken tikka and lamb cutlets as entrees. Excellent meat, a good level of spice, lovely presentation on the hot plate with delicious vegetables and sliced lime. The Panak paneer had depth and complexity, we enjoyed it very much. The coconut rice was perfectly prepared. even though every dish was very good, the highlight was the Kashmir naan. Light, flaky bread with excellent fruit and nuts. The food was fresh, clean and extremely well cooked. We will definitely come back to work our way through the menu. The bill was very modest for such good food.

If this restaurant was in Brunswick or Fitzroy, everyone would be raving on about how good it is — yet because it is hidden away in a Moonee Ponds backstreet, people simply dont know about it!!! We were absolutely delighted by it! The staff were absolutely wonderful: they were efficient yet also very gentle and seemed to know exactly when to serve us, when to take plates away and when to ask questions — they simply knew exactly which questions to ask too! The food was absolutely magnificant! For entrée, the vegetable pakora(small vegie patties) were delicious and all three were unique! The plate of 6 patties cost $ 5.50. For mains we had the best fish masala Ive ever had(and yes Ive been to India) as well as a very very good saag lamb(lamb in spinach curry). Both dishes were under $ 15. We also had a tasty garlic naan and a raita. The mango lassi’s were delicious too! Perhaps the naan couldve been a bit bigger, but this is a restaurant — not a takeaway joint — and it was an adequate size. That said, they do do takeaway and deliver as long as you live within 4 kms and you order at least $ 30 worth. A wonderful little restaurant which Im delighted to have found!!!

One thing Moonee Ponds does well are the quaint and impressive restaurants and cafes that are dotted along the main streets. Magic Mint is one of these. You’ll smell the undeniable aroma of authentic Indian cuisine before you see it, and if it weren’t for the alfresco seating you might well just walk straight past. Offering traditional favourites such as butter chicken, chicken tikka and masala, for me I can’t go past the Tandoori Platter — it’s mouth wateringly delicious. The staff are beautiful and always so friendly and welcoming, and although the restaurant looks quite intimate, it’s surprising how many people can actually be seated inside. A charming little café, and with BYO wine as well you can’t go wrong.
