I love sushi and I love sushi train because I get to see something before I choose to eat it. The place is fairly busy for 3pm, the variety of sushi that comes past is also limited. I love my sashimi and there didn’t seems to b many except salmon, tuna and kingfish. Prices was $ 4.50 per plate which isnt the cheapest either. But I like that it is clean.

Love this place. The sushi train items are all a flat price of $ 4.50. This can be good value if you choose the right dishes. For example, two oysters or tempura soft shell crab might be better value than vegetable sushi. It does tend to even out in the end for me though. The seaweed salad was generous and not as sweet as most — nice. The sashimi was super fresh and delicious as were the oysters. They use sushi rice here which makes a difference to the sashimi. The grains are small and cooked al dente and the filings are fresh and tasty. Black rice and brown rice rolls are also available. The hot dishes are quite moreish as well, chicken options, prawn tempura and flamed nigiri. Variety is great. It can get very busy at lunch time any day of the week so be prepared for a wait. If you have the time, it is worth it!

Can’t comment on the sushi, but the tempura udon is overpriced & tastes very ordinary. Just some miserable soggy prawns in MSG soup and some weird fish cakes. No vegetable tempura or any dipping soy sauce.

My math skills are pretty subpar and in no way a match for my ability to consume sushi. So sushi trains can be a bit of a trap for me… scarfing away sushi rolls at pace with my multi-coloured plates piling higher, each representing a mystery number that will be my final bill. I appreciate the $ 4.50 flat fee for the sushi train here. Each plate, irrespective of colour, size or shape, costs the same. Easy. There are some specials that are priced differently, but each are clearly marked and all around the $ 7 mark. The sushi itself is one of the better I’ve had from a train set-up locally, and by far the best for a Melbourne shopping centre. Bonus — you don’t need to threaten anyone with a plastic fork to secure a seat. Winning. There’s also a take away area around the front if you want to skip the entire sit-down lunch situation all together.

The Food Court at The Emporium is like no other in Melbourne — possibly like no other in Australia. None of the fast food brands that plague most food courts, this spot is full of interesting and delicious options. Sushi Hon is a sushi-train(or, as I like to call it, a sushi-go-round) combined with takeaway(pre-prepared boxes/selections) that also has a license to sell sake, beer, and a few other beverages. My wife and I have been here twice now and the selection has been spectacular. Rather than charging you for the colour of the plate, every plate is a flat $ 4.50 and the portions are completely worth it. Indeed, many of the sushi portions won’t fit in your mouth in one go, so be prepared to either open really wide, or, make a bit of a mess. They advertise that their Tasmanian salmon is flown in daily, and that their tuna and king fish is also supplied fresh daily — no frozen fish here, everything is fresh and made right before your eyes — as it should be! A great selection of hot dishes, cold, vegetarian(crazy people food), seafood and even some meats; we’ve loved everything we’ve had! It gets crowded quickly, especially around meal times, so either be prepared to wait, or, show up outside of the typical lunch/dinner hours. Since all of the food is fresh, the later you come the less selection there will be. They don’t make more than they’re going to use for the day, and clearly have mastered the art of making their supplies last pretty much just right. When we visited on a Saturday at lunch time(dumb move) the selection was superb; indeed, many plates were stacked two high, utilising plastic covers to facilitate the second layer. The chefs were constantly preparing new dishes and did a great job of keeping things fresh and a wide selection available. Highly recommended, we love sushi, and we’re definitely fans of Sushi Hon!
