Mount Arapiles is the wolrds best cliff. I think. Hard to prove these things though. Beautiful metamorphised sandstone that is solid like Granite but with all the tiny features and cracks of sedamentary rock. There are well over 3000 routes, with 3 star climbs at all levels of difficulties. The weather is also stunning. Appart from the cliff, the camp ground and the people it attracts are enough reason to visit here in themselves. It can get really hot, there are no showers and it can be crowded. However it’s got a really special feel to it. A sense of history and of adventure. Plus it is filled with all manner of hippy climbers from around the worrld, along with a gray haired local scence, crazy school kids and high powered motivational speaker types. About 4 hrs from Melbourne this area marks the beggining of the outback. As off the beaten track as you could imagine, yet it has a great pub and can easily be reached by train and a little shuttle bus.
