The Melbourne Festival is over for another year and the festival acts have moved to their next art festival. C and I enjoyed this year’s festival immensely, especially The Manganiyar Seduction, we bought their CD after the show and it has been on high rotation at our place ever since. The festival is also an excuse for us to have dinner out, to get dressed up and enjoy Melbourne. The only problem was that this year it rained on us every time we went out. When we came out of the performances at the Arts Centre one night the rain had eased and we were able to enjoy the animated projections on the Arts Centre, another part of the Melbourne Festival. Each year there is a great catalogue of international acts, dance, music, drama and a few other items that are hard to classify. Each year I booked tickets in advance, to take advantage of discount packages for multiple events. I hope that I’ve made a good selection; the festival program does indicate some highlights, like The Manganiyar Seduction, but often it is the less obvious events that bring the greatest satisfaction. C and I love to see something totally novel and unexpectedly beautiful and each year we have found it at the Melbourne Festival.

An annual event that gives the Fringe Festival a run for its money. Thank God the latter is now over. Welcome to quality art, theatre, culture and sculpture in one of Australia’s most prominent cultural hubs. The organisers are highly experienced; this festival has been in operation since around 1986 and will continue. The Melbourne Festival Lounge at the Arts Centre along St Kilda Road is a great hub for information and enjoyment to this great festival, and there is also a program you can pick up at Federation Square, and of course it has to be in my favourite colour. A combination of free and paid for events are on offer. The Angels-Demons. Parade street exhibition is grabbing people’s attention along Swanston Street and St Kilda Road right now. If you have seen these six metre tall black sculptures to date; you will know what I am talking about. Arresting and playful. You be the inner art critic; you will enjoy; walk around and have a great time. Jet black infants in wings and tails: are they angelic demons perhaps; or demonic angels at heart? Again you can be the judge. Shiny and silky Russian inspired art. Hmmm… living proof that Europe and Melbourne go hand in hand.
