The locale is a food court at Melbourne central but still they have claimed their own seating space and made it there own. I felt good sitting here. Not really food courtie at all. The staff are efficient if not actually friendly. My food, arrived quickly, was fresh, tasty(hello melted cheese) and felt kinda health.(Well comparatively). My final word is Yum!

Ok for a quick bite if in a hurry. I’ve tried the pork burrito twice and I’m not impressed. The pork is overly salted but otherwise bland. The rice and black beans are no better. However it’s reasonably priced. Do serve coronas which is a plus.

there are a lot of mexican restaurants in Melbourne, and this brand is just one of many fast food chain mexican outlets. My review for this Mad Mex isn’t specific to this Mad Mex store but to the brand as a whole as I have eaten at several throughout Melbourne. No matter which mexican fast food outlet i go to I order a pork burrito. This brand I feels does it the worst, the pork is too dry and there is just little flavour in it as a whole compared to its brand rivals.

Fans of the US chain Chipotle will feel right at home here. Fresh-as Mexican food — tacos, burritos, quesadillas and even margaritas — is served up fast and to your order, with a choice of different garnishes and hot sauces. Great vegetarian options, too. One of my favourite places for a quick bite when I’m in the CBD.

omg this is the best taco place i have ever found. I cant really explain why but the 3 crispy tacos were soooo good i ate there 3 times in 2 days. I hope they come to california soon. On all visits the people were friendly.

PLACE/AMBIANCE: This particular mad mex is situated in the food court of Melbourne Central. Tucked in the corner, with some tables overlooking an outside view of swanston street. Table seating is typically 2 or 4, but they can be shuffled around if need be. SERVICE: Wow! A mexican fast food joint that actually has latino’s working behind the counter. I was happy to be able to practice my spanish. They are very helpful with the process so dont be shy to ask how everything works, if the visual explanations dont do the job. They also indicate the spiciness of each sauce — which is always a good precaution. FOOD: Great i thought. For Mexican which is pre-made and sitting under a heater the flavor was well kept. I was happy to see that this place incorporates certain authentic qualities — such as soft shell tacos — to go along with the all too familiar ‘tex-mex’ we see everywhere these days. Ive tried the burrito, quasidila, and tacos. Fillings is just personal preference, but dont be afraid to just get everything. I especially encourage trying a carnitas(pork) quasadilla! the melted cheese on pulled pork inside a freshly pressed tortilla will not disappoint — and make sure you dip each bite into some salsa verde; mexican crema and guacamole. pefect bite! And please try a Dos Equis beer if you haven’t before(and you like beer) it blows Corona out of the water — they have 2 versions also — amber is the one i prefer! PRICING: Decent! most of the menu is sub $ 10 if i recall correctly. You also get the option of a small or large version of whatever you get — so goes the respective price. I ordered a couple of regular burritos; some small serving tacos; a large quasadilla and 2 dos equis — totalling $ 44. OVERALL: If im in a «food court» and i want mexican food — Mad Mex is what im looking for from now on.

Does ian alright job at making mini-tacos. They’re pretty average, but its the best I’ve seen in Australia when it comes to mexican food. Don’t really like how they ask you if you want guacamole and its like a added $ 2.50 just to put one little slice of guacamole in your taco such bullshit. Same with the add ons. Tapito sauce packets are like 50cents each. If you really wanna spent like $ 12-$ 13 on a fast food meal here you go. Rape your wallet pretty much. Be care with some of the add-ons they price you extra just to get more accessories. Personally I’d rather just go to Woolworths and buy the«Old El Paso Taco kit» and make that myself and get some fresh onion, capsicum, tomato, fresh chili and coriander and throw that together to make a salsa. cheese and some shredded steak, chicken or pork goes well with it.

I’m not crazy about this joint but sometimes, when I get really hungover and am absolutely in need of a burrito I’ll swing by Mad Mex. The burritos here aren’t great: Bland white rice, grated cheddar cheese, and overly salty meat does not excite. However, I do like the guacamole and salsa fresca, and the small burrito is priced reasonably at 8 dollars. This is a decent choice for a cheap lunch at Melbourne Central but not a place I’d seek out unless my burrito craving got REALLY bad. It can happen folks.

Although I’ve been to both of them, I’ll review this one as it was the first I went to. It’s great value for the money; pretty easy to choose and there are always further options for next time dining. Well priced meals on a solid concept, great flavours too. Two things at the chapel street location that have let it down; One– my meal card with SIX stamps out of ten to a free meal was«lost» by the server– so that is pretty much a grand disappointment, and made for a most souring experience. Thanks guys, just«loose» my card in which i had near $ 70+ of loyalty on. Two– the nachos. I’m sorry guys, but this is Australia! We have bastardised nachos here! Nachos have MELTEDCHEESETHATISCOOKEDIN A OVEN!!! As opposed to just slopping on some toppings that are still cold, and cold grated cheese– seriously, not impressed at all! Again– MELTEDCHEESE, and BAKEDINANOVEN!!! I know I repeated myself, but i felt it was worth pointing out. Also– cheese sauce? Mega gross! I’ll save that for when i’m 130 kilos overweight. Well, I’ve never had nachos this way so there’s a first time for everything. I’ve gone with three stars because prior to this it has proven very tasty, easy, and satisfying, and I haven’t tried the entire menu, but i wish to.

I spend a lot of my time being sad. And I’m sad because Australia is so far from everywhere, most specifically the Mexicans. I like Mexicans, most specifically their cuisine. I spent most of my time in New York indulging my obsession. Yes, we’ve all heard of Mamasita and yes it’s pretty good. But what about the street carts around New York? What about the food that comes wrapped in foil for $ 8? Well if that’s what you’re looking for then the best you can do in Australia is Mad Mex. I tried it for the first time yesterday and I was pretty impressed by the authenticity of flavours. I wasn’t blown away by its deliciousness, I was just decently satisfied. I suppose I’ll have to spend the rest of my days longing for the kind of food they get in Mexico and North America. In between those days, I’ll eat at Mad Mex.

Mad Mex is so mind-blowingly delicious it’s threatening to turn me obese. I’m not normally so excited by fast food, but Mexican food in general has a strange power over me, so when it’s done well(and cheap) it gets me a little excited. Mad Mex offers a basic Tex Mex menu of soft and hard shell tacos, burritos, nachos and quesadillas, with an option of various meats or vegetarian. Where vegetarians are concerned, I would maybe stick to Trippy Taco in Fitzroy(as the vegetable mix on offer is a little underwhelming and a little too watery for my tastes), but the slow cooked marinated meats(chicken, beef, pork) are all amazing! Meals are all around the $ 10 mark, but rest assured that you will leave full and oh so satisfied. Note: all of the foods on offer are super messy to eat… not date food!
