I use to work at Expedia AU and one my ex co worker’s husband was the pastry chef there so she would bring in cakes for special occasions like someones birthday. even though i’m not that big of a fan for desserts my favourite cake is the passionfruit chocolate cake. so beautifully designed and so perfectly balanced in flavour. i say that because i didn’t pass out from too much sugar as it was the perfect sweetness. highly recommend getting a cake here for your loved ones birthday or anniversary.

Beautiful little cake shop. The cakes are delicious and look lovely too. Their larger cakes are very impressive and are great for a birthday or special event. I love their lemon tarts.

The cakes here are delicious and the store’s main point of business. But really if you’re here you should try the hot chocolates. I personally like the dark chocolate one. I have taken many people here and basically all of then say it’s the best hot chocolate they have ever had. I tend to agree.

The delicious cakes on offer in this store are legendary… always fresh and always moist. They bake everything fresh on premises each day. They put those cake shops on Acland St or Lygon street to shame — dont bother as these guys are just leagues ahead. If there is anything that you need to be aware of is that the larger cakes tend to sell out towards the later half of the day so go in around 12.00 noon for the full selection… my favourite of late is the lemon tart(a basic done exceptionally well). I’ve also had great green tea gâteau and many others. Enjoy!

Le Petite indeed! One word of warning to start — frequenting this establishment will leave you anything but petite! Having said that it will bring joy to your taste buds and put a delirious smile on your dial. I have had the pleasure of eating the amazing creations from this establishment before and I have yet to be let down. There is sparse seating inside allowing you to eat these amazing offerings if you can’t make it out the door without devouring them. A great little spot definitely worth a look in if you have the time.

After lunch at Izakaya Den, we fulfilled Jo’s sweet tooth by paying a visit to the French patisserie, Le Petit Gâteau. We were pretty full from our lunch, but upon arriving, our bellies were at once again ready to go! I’m more of a fruit tart type of gal, so I went for the Lemon Tart(6.8). The others had the Brownie & Passionfruit Chocolate Gâteau(8.6) and the Hazelnut Millefeuille(8.6). We essentially shared our desserts, so I got to try all three! I loved the Lemon Tart, as it was neither too sweet or sour, and I love tart pastries! Although it’s difficult to go wrong with a lemon tart — there definitely wasn’t any added or artificial flavor that shouldn’t have been there. The Hazelnut Millefeuille was also delicious, as it reminded me of a Ferrero Rocher. It was definitely richer, so it was difficult for me to have too much, but puff pastry always does it for me. The brownie cake was also really delicious, and was a good balance of all the flavors, especially with the layer of passionfruit. They do an afternoon coffee and dessert special for $ 9 that we should have done, but we didn’t see it until after! The place actually reminded me a bit of a petit Le Bön Choix in Brisbane, but definitely with better tasting desserts and better service!

Not sure why it took me so long to go to Pierrik Boyer’s Le Petit Gâteau but I fear it may be because I walked past it so many times without realising! It’s worth looking out for though & the mini pastries they’re now baking mean that you can sample more than one without the guilt. Sip your coffee, nibble your pastries & watch the chef’s in action in the rear.

A very slick enterprise this place. Had the brownie, it was very light and fluffy with a nice little mango jelly slice in the middle.

This is my favorite Patisserie in Melbourne. Its as French/Australian as it gets. Every delicious treat is exactly that, delicious. Your taste buds will orgasm at every bite of each treat. you can’t really go past the Chocolate Brownie Passion. The lemon tart is tangy & I had a large Cosmopolitan for my birthday once — A delicious version of the carrot cake with a surprise of raspeberry jam on top. All ingredients are natural which differs from the likes of Burch & Purchase. BEST

Fancy pants desserts that satisfy your sweet tooth and your need for social superiority. When tucking into a plain, everyday brownie or boring, old mud cake isn’t enough, then Le Petit Gâteau will serve you up some tiny, indulgent treats that combine so many flavours, textures and techniques you’ll feel honoured you were even given the opportunity to take a bite. Don’t believe me? Then let me give you an example. Their famous Brownie and Passionfruit Chocolate Gâteau starts with a thick, brownie base. Then they add a layer of rich crispy praline. On top of that they smooth on a generous amount of passionfruit custard, which is topped off with sinful chocolate mousse. The whole cake is then covered in silky ganache and a sliver of tangy passionfruit jelly. So if you’re still reading this and haven’t already jumped off your chair and made a mad rush to Le Petit Gâteau, you might also like to know that many of their sliced cakes are available in larger sizes for special occasion. Everything here is also made onsite, in fact you can actually see the kitchen from the café. So pull up a seat, order a coffee and cake or two, or perhaps even a macaron, and watch them at the back whipping up some delicious magic.

There’s little not to make you swoon in a store that exlusively sells freshly made sweet things. Every size from the tiny to the tremendous is taken care of here… the only real issue is whether you can fit it all in. My only issue(and the reason for four stars, not five) is the lack of gluten-free options. Although with notice, it is something they can accomodate.
