This place must have ten different names — Sarawak Inn? Kuching Inn? Sarawak Kitchen? Who knows! Make sure you avoid the bustle of lunch or dinner times as the café is small and the people are many. We got the Sarawak Laksa, Kolo Mee and the Tomato Kueh Tiao. They are about as genuine and as close to the real thing as you can get. Definitely recommend for fans of Malaysian food.

I had my 7 days holiday in melbourne recently and I ate there like at least 3 times. I love the kolomee. It tastes very authentic and delicious. The noodles is slightly different to the kolomee in malaysia. Still enjoyed it. Lots of dishes from Malaysia to choose from. The environment is alright and can be very busy at lunch time. Sometimes i have to share table with strangers which makes me very uncomfortable.

Ok Melbourne… you definitely beat Sydney in the Malaysian culinary competition. Sarawak Laksa?! Get out! It’s not even that easy to find this on the west side of Malaysia. The laksa was not bad and there was A LOT in it so left me pretty stuffed. The restaurant was very busy so expect to wait/share tables. Service was a bit slow and we had to ask a few times for our food. Overall thought I have great respect for places trying to bring out new unique dishes for us to try!

So you think you know Malaysian food? Think again. This is possibly Melbourne’s only venue showcasing dishes from Sarawak, the Malysian state on the coast of Borneo. Blogs say Kitchen Inn is not 100% authentic — but given every family in the world have their own ‘authentic’ recipes, I’ll take that with a pinch of salt. So I also didn’t go with the expectation of eating KL, Ipoh, Malacca or Penang style Malaysian food. I tried Sarawak laksa and kolo mee, both delicious and interesting. I have a vague idea of how they ought to taste and was happy with what I tried. Prices are as low as the froth on the Teh Tarik is high. I’d definitely go again. I don’t care that it is cramped, I don’t care that the décor didn’t cost a squillion and that there are no hipsters sitting on milk crates there. I don’t care that you order at the counter. I came, ordered $ 22 worth of sustenance for two, and paid $ 5.50 per hour to use a parking meter. I left fully sated. Try it!

I thought I would be different for once with my lunch, and I had a craving for chicken rice. Sadly, said craving was not really satisfied and I won’t be doing anything different anytime soon again.

Atmosphere and environment isn’t anything spectacular and the service isn’t great. Food was fairly average with the noodles being too dry.
