Every time i get turned away from the provincial i get pointed in the direction of this place. What a great spot. At this stage i dont want to go to the provincial, i just like the sport of them telling me to go here. Why nicer and hasnt got tools for doormen. Well done cape live!

While the biggest attraction to Cape Live may be the drummer that busks outside on the pavement every weekend; there are some reasonable attractions to be had inside as well. Cape Live may not be Brunswick Street’s hippest or most happening place. But with it’s ideal location on the corner of Johnston Street it can see pack out some nights. Cape Live is an African themed bar that offers an array of comfy couches to relax upon and a good deal of live music to dance to — or a DJ at the very least. As such Cape Live is a great venue to go have a drink to sit down and chat to friends. And who knows you may just end up dancing your socks off all night long.

First up, I have a confession to make. I have never been to Cape Live without at least a couple of drinks under my belt. I also suspect that i am not the only one. So as I have no idea what this place is like completely sober, take this review with a grain of salt(and possibly a shot of tequila to you know, get in the mood!) The last time I found myself here a reggae band was playing which was perfect for the random mix of drinkers here after refusing to call it a night at their original location! Cape Live is not where you head to for a night out, its where you find yourself at the end. Cam E is right about the couches– perfect to wind down on or rest before getting your second wind. The bar prices are what you expect on Brunswick street, but not what you expect given the atmosphere. The Cape has a ram shackled messy vibe suited to the late/early hours of a great night out. What is it like during daylight hours? No idea, you will have to ask someone else!

A huge downstairs ‘chill out’ room awaits at Cape Live, and upstairs, it’s quite the opposite. Nestled on a prime corner in Fitzroy, that of Brunswick and Johnston Streets, Cape live and its groovy African themed décor invite anyone and everyone to come and have a drink and a dance. The comfy couches downstairs are perfect for cosying up with a wine and listening to either the funky mix on the stereo or the occasional live band in the corner, who no doubt will be playing much the same style. Head upstairs though, and on any night of the weekend, you’ll find a dance floor full of groovers getting down to that night’s DJ’s choice of classics. Many know Cape Live as the final stop on their Fitzroy evening out. Not one to discriminate those who have been indulging already, they’re happy for you to come in and either wind up or wind down your evening.
