Really cheap, freshly made bread selections.
Cool stuff from savoury to sweets. oooo the sweets. But this is just carb central. so should only happen on small ocasions and not become a habit as this could be dagerous.
But for an afternoon snack for your coffee, why not swing past pay a couple dollars and get a nicely baked sweet for your coffee (as the swede’s say «Fika» is the best time of day)

Breadtop has some very good snacks. The custard buns were particularly good. While my wife and I were only in Melbourne for 5 days, but I think I went to this place at least once per day.
The only drawback is that — if you’re jetlagged and you wake up early — you’re not going to be eating an early breakfast here. Most of the Breadtops don’t open until 10am.
Still, not worth taking off a star for that. Highly recommended!

Only got $ 3 to spend? This is the place. Everything from taro cake to a ham and cheese sandwich to a chocolate mud cake.
Good place to drop by to stop the afternoon cravings.
Only draw back is food (not cakes) are not refrigerated and appears there are no timers on things — hopefully someone is making sure the products are not sitting there all day. Also it’s «help your self» so let’s just hope everyone uses the tongs provided and holds in all coffs and sneezes.
Saying that, I’ve always had good quality food.

Where else but Melbourne could you get Chinese-​style sausage in a bun but with a frankfurt and brioche? That’s what I love about Breadtop. More than just the fact that it’s all quite tasty, I love the fact that it’s a uniquely Australian take on an Asian take on a traditional bakery.

I fall into the same trap every time I visit the QV via the Big W escalators out on the corner of Swanston and Lonsdale — I end up coming up the escalators from inside the QV and am faced with the shining beacon of sugary doughy glazed treats that is Breadtop at the top of those escalators.
It’s then near impossible to change trajectory as I step straight off the escalator and into Breadtop and am propelled by forces beyond my control, tongs in hand, ready to fill my Breadtop plastic tray with all manner of naughty things.
I usually end up with at least one each of the tuna roll, the spring onion and mayo/​cream cheese roll, a donut twist and an almond croissant. These are my tried and tested winners. For now.

Since Bread Top was first established in 2002 its multiplied through out the country from humble beginnings at its first Box Hill store. There is no doubt it has built its popularity since opening, especially within the Asian community as it offers traditional Asian bakery treats, sweets and cakes and the odd european influence here and there.
Bread Top also provides interesting celebration cakes for any occasions with traditional flavourings combined with Asian influences. Perfect for anyone who has a sweet tooth or is interested in experiencing something new. My favourite, Coconut Loaf, Red Bean Bun and Green Tea cakes.

I strolled past Bread Top today and was sucked in by the light reflecting off a glazed treat (Well that’s my story and i’m sticking to it).
Breadtop is an Asian bakery that is here to impress, popular amongst some… it is some interesting cuisine at first glance…
You have savoury items such as the Sacha Pork Floss Bun and Chicken Puff but whats more appealing is the sweet stuff, Milky custard buns and my favourite the ‘blueberry yogurt bun’. Yum!
They have a large assortment of sweets that won’t set you back too much, the cakes presentation wise are glamorous and available for purchase. They focus mainly on fruit as a decorative resource which adds a lot of colour to their cakes but after laying eyes on the ice-​cream cake (ice-​cream scoops toppled one atop of another in the form of a giant cake), i know where im getting my next birthday cake!

Some of the flavour combinations at Breadtop are seriously freaky.
Bambo charcoal bun anyone?
Or if that’s not you’e thing how about a crabmeat bun?
Or a pork floss bun?
Tasty? Maybe. Quirky? Yes indeed.
Everything seems to be glazed and slightly sweet, with asian fillings such as taro (Taro Toast), red bean (Red Bean Bread), coconut (Coconut Bread) and sticky rice (Purple Sticky Rice Bread) in abundance.
Breadtop is definitely an acquired taste, but it’s all a lot of fun.
