I am completely biased. I love these markets. Rotating food vendors, free kids entertainment, free live bands/solo artists and DJs. All that is needed is a picnic blanket to kick back on.

Such a great space for food markets! I visited a few times last summer and always left satisfied. I went with a group of friends and chilled on a picnic blanket, sampling as much food as I could handle! I suggest going a little later in the evening of you want to avoid noisy children. Some people take their dogs down too. A fantastic community event.

I love how Perth is beginning to take advantage of it’s balmy summer nights by putting on food trucks and stalls at these night time markets. I had the Philpino bork belly noodles which is a must! It’s family friendly and is just nice to sit on the grass and enjoy a lovely variety of street food.

What a fabulous summer night markets! Set in ‘the rise’ where the maylands library is, situated on the lovely green grass. Byo picnic rug, wine and dogs! Lovely family atmosphere. Perfect amount of food stalls and trucks and lots of places to sit and eat. I ordered the club mix plate from the hummus club, it was amazing and I would get it over and over again! Consisted of 4 homemade fluffy crunchy and flavoursome falafels, fattoush salad, large pita bread and amazing smooth hummus. I also purchased a pomegranate lemonade delicious! For dessert we purchased a salted caramel ice cream, mason saint h macarons delightful and taste tested Peruvian treats. The best hawkers markets I’ve been to so far! Will be back! parking is pretty hard to find though so car pool. There is an IGA chemist near by but they sat you cannot park there and will he fined but I mean where else could you park if no other parking along the street and the rise are available… Other than that downfall everything was perfect :-)

Looking for the old perth road twilight markets to do some Christmas shopping but without a map or directions I found these hawkers markets. Great place to chill and picnic with small children and friends but not alone. Missed out on doing any Christmas shopping. Tip: get the proper address and map!

I’m not from around here, so when I hear wind about certain parts of town being shadier than others, I can’t say that I take part in that conversation, especially when it is involving Maylands. Whatever it use to be, it sure ain’t now. Maylands is certainly coming into its own. Shady? Ha-ha, well one would never know with a whole block of land filled with kids running around, food stalls and families outstretched on blankets. It was a lovely evening featuring great food and Polynesian dancers/singers! Someone set out bubble buckets for kids to have a blast(or perhaps easier bath time once home… just add water?). To make it feel even more family friendly, Marcelita’s Empanadas recognized my man from another Unilocal event! Talk about a small town vibe! It was also nice to see food stalls from the Unilocal Garden Party. I would definitely say that the MHM is much more family friendly than the one in the city. Could see the city looking for a larger space next year.

It is lovely to see these types of Markets popping up in the community around Perth and a more cosy/family feel than the hustle and bustle of the Twilight markets. Lots of activities for children and space to sit. The food options are a bit small and you are looking to pay around $ 10 – 15 for a meal. I tried the Caribbean meal — with Fish, Lemon Ginger sauce, Rice, Sweet potato, homemade sorbet and a juice. Overall it was $ 15 as a meal pack and pretty yum. They are also super lovely at the stall and give out taste testers so you know what to expect. I bought a little pack of asian treats which was tasty but I wasn’t too bothered with it because the serves were tiny and it was $ 6. Hopefully these markets continue because the Ffoodies truck looked amazing — I had an eye on the Philly Cheesesteak!

As a Bayswater resident, I could not be more thankful for these markets. It’s been fantastic watching it evolve from its first week, experimenting with layout and attracting new vendors. It’s got a super family friendly vibe and plenty of space to hang out. Groups have taken to bringing down a picnic blanket and enjoying food, sunsets and piano accordion players, and the vibe is really chilled and happy. Vendors change week to week but their Facebook page is always being updated to lt everyone know what’s going on.

As a Maylands resident of 29 years(eep — now you know how old I am!), I was so excited when I heard the news about a new Maylands Market. The market was initially a collaboration between the Lions Club of Maylands and Events & Beyond to be held on a Sunday selling a mix of fresh and ready to eat food, as well as handmade goods. When that initiative sadly fell through, the Lions Club applied to the City of Bayswater Council to have a weekly hawker style market and so the Maylands Hawker Markets were born. On the day I visited, popular food vendors such as Bangkok Jump Street, Jumplings tasty dumplings, Marcelita’s Empanadas, Delish Ice and Red Hot Spatula were in attendance, as well as some newer stalls that I haven’t come across before like Top Rice BBQ and Miam Miam. Maylands was represented by continental deli Smoult’s(186 Whatley Crescent, Maylands — opposite the Maylands Train Station) whose very popular gourmet sausage sizzle sold out by 7pm. My cousin and I had a three course feast that took us around the world. We started with some Colombian style pork empanadas from Marcelita’s. For mains, we shared a pork crackling salad and pad thai. I can not rave about the salad enough. It was AMAZING. For dessert, we had icy-poles from the retro girls at Delish Ice. The Maylands Hawkers Market are located in the grassed area of The Rise(corner 8th Avenue and Guildford Roads, Maylands) and are scheduled to run most* Saturdays from 4.30pm to 8pm until 12th April 2014. *There are some dates when the market will not be running due to other bookings in the amphitheatre area and some days when the hours will be slightly different. Make sure you check the Facebook page before visiting for the most up-to-date info. Maylands Hawker Markets: For more reviews like this, go to
