This place ruined my birthday dinner. I booked a table for 20 people for a Sunday night dinner (during the phone conversation no information was given about the specifics of the venue, including the dress code) and upon arriving at the venue, some of my guests were not allowed to go in because they were «too casual» (they had hoodies and zip up jackets) while people with thongs and shorts wondered freely inside the venue.
I was informed by a security guard to call anglers tavern and ask to speak to a manager. I did. I called and was told the manager was not available to talk to until the next day (even though he was inside that night) I asked to speak to another manager and was told no. What kind of venue that is customer service denies a customer the right to entry then denies them the right to speak to a manager? Absolutely horrid. Not only were the security guards rude and arrogant, so were the other staff we dealt with in this short amount of time.
I had to relocate my party (at the very last minute) to another venue because why would I spend money on a place that has no understanding of the basic concept of respect and has no consideration for customer satisfaction.
Avoid at all costs.

Absolute joke! 3 security guards take on 2x mature 40kg lady’s that where not intoxicated or in anyway a breaking the law because they walk into restaurant via the wrong door that wasn’t NOT SIGN MARKED! Then proceed to be intimidating arrogant and hostel with no explanation to what they had done wrong when they asked if they could call a friend to pick them up they where escort them to the front and was told to make their call outside in the dark and made them wait by them selfs in the dark pouring rain! Your security is a JOKE! And YOUR management NEED DISMISSING! ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!

Dont go to Anglers for a sit down dinner. Go to anglers for a burger or a parma. If you do then you will enjoy the experience a lot more. On that note, the parma is a monster! quantity over quality but there is a time and a place for that. Good pub

This is a great place to go for a drink on a sunny afternoon with a great view over the Maribyrnong river. The food is also good and they provide substantial portions so you can get some value for money. On a Saturday afternoon there is a regular live band which are really good and create a good atmosphere for starting off the weekend festivities. On a hot weekend afternoon the garden area becomes really busy, there is a great atmosphere however it is difficult to get a seat.
The major plus for this place is its location on the bank of the river, not just because it is aesthetically pleasing but this also a place where people come to relax and exercise with many parks and a walkway around the river often has many joggers and walkers doing laps. The tavern provides a great pit stop and place to relax.
The only negatives I would say is that you have to go to pick up your food (it is not waiter service) and that the Tab situated between the bar and the garden area breaks up a bit of the atmosphere. But for me these things are more than liveable for a great place to spend a Saturday/​Sunday afternoon

An absolute hole of a place, poor staff, poor food, just poor all round, should b a great spot with the location, but sadly a very big let down

Was extremely disappointed with our visit Sunday. Upon arrival we were informed our friends had arrived but he couldn’t tell us what table we had booked as someone took the book. He said he was sure they were down the end and sent us walking around the venue looking for our friends… who were not there. Once he found the book he got us and took us to our empty table not even explaining where our invisible friends could of gone.
After our friends actually arrived we went up and ordered food all together. Long before any of the large tables around us ordered. My food came out and my partners but our guests mains just didn’t come out. We saw countless plates of the Calamari delivered to many people on the large tables around us who ordered after us but the Calamari we ordered was never delivered. We asked a waiter to please chase up the missing 2 mains and he went to the counter then continued to wait on other tables and never came back or gave us an update. We asked a second staff member where the food was and she checked and told us it would be out soon. Once it hit 40 minutes my partner had finished his burger, I chose to wait to eat my food until all meals were out so of course my food had gone cold. We asked a third person to follow up, we said if it was forgotten they should just say that and be honest so we can work out what we want to do but everyone just kept saying «it will be out soon». 50 minutes after half the meals were served out came the other half. Undercooked and tasting terrible. The two guests did not finish their meals and we all left. No apology from any staff no customer service and no explanation. I have been coming to Anglers since I was a little girl and I am so disappointed the place has gone so downhill. The paint wearing off the poles in the middle of the room the carpet is disgusting the service was absolutely dreadful and the only good part about the meal what the hot chips. The staff need to acknowledge if a mistake has been made and apologise for inconveniencing customers. I had to apologise to my guests for recommending Anglers and taking them there which was embarrassing. After more than 15 years of being a customer I cannot see any reason to return.

This is a great place to head out to for the weekend. It has a great selection of food, we went for the more casual pub grub in the bar area. It has an easy access bar with little waiting time (even when it’s super busy) and live outdoor music in a great setting.
Definate thumbs up for the Anglers…

To those of us who grew up in the western Suburbs, the Anglers is a landmark. I started going as a kid for family dinners in the Tavern, and now as an adult go in the evening to catch up with friends. Meals are pretty well priced, and the service is always friendly, but what I love is the outdoor patio overlooking the Maribyrnong river, that come summer time is filled with locals enjoying a meal and a few drinks.
New owners have just taken over, and a facelift for the venue is underway, including a refurbished pool room. I believe the new owners are trying to make this an upscale, central venue for everyone in the community. The menu here leans towards meditteranian cuisine, but also offers steaks, seafood and good old fahioned burgers.
Oh, and my grandma thinks the seniors menu is pretty good too!
