Visiting this area for a couple of weeks… and looking for somewhere to go/do/see. Thought I’d check out the local Art Gallery. Actually wasn’t expecting anything much, but indeed a pleasant surprise! The Gallery is housed in the old Maitland Technical College building, which has been superbly adapted and expanded to produce an excellent, quality art space. The gallery is a very welcoming place and the staff were so helpful and friendly. The art works are beautifully displayed. Luckily for me, there was an excellent exhibition of Jim Cooper’s ceramics and the Archibald Prize entries were also on display, on regional tour. I had a most enjoyable morning perusing the artworks and afterwards the well-stocked gift shop. Finally, morning coffee and a delicious home-made pastry at the gallery café. The café was excellent, and is clearly well-known in Maitland, as it was packed! Definitely the best café I’ve found in Maitland so far.
