Let’s get the bad out of the way — I’ve only been to Foam Coffee Bar in Leederville once before, and it was one of those terrible experiences that makes you vow never to go back. I’m not going into details, because I’m happy to say that I had a much better experience when I returned to Foam last week as the guest of my friend Keegan, better known on Instagram as @angrycoffeeman. Keegan had been invited to Foam to sample the new menu, which had been launched a few days previously. It might look pretty standard at first glance, but there’s some interesting dishes here. The bacon is hand-cut and smoked in-house. The full English breakfast actually includes black pudding, and I wouldn’t personally order the«Flower Eggs» but I’m intrigued to see what it looks like. I ordered the Canadian pancakes with maple syrup and house-smoked bacon($ 15). The pancakes are quite thin, more crêpe-style than the thick pancakes we often get — I prefer them this way, so was happy. I should point out that there is extra bacon wedged between each pancake, so although this might look like a small-ish dish when it arrives, there’s plenty to get through. It definitely needs the lemon, and I would have liked some more maple syrup, but this was a tasty dish that I’d certainly order again. Keegan ordered the crème fraîche scrambled eggs($ 15) with a side of mushrooms($ 4), which was a great combination. The scrambled eggs were light and creamy, not made at all heavy by the crème fraîche. Coffee is from 5 Senses, and my second for the day — cappuccino this time — was really, really good. Based on this experience, the horrors of the past have been forgiven and I would be very happy to return to Foam. The service was friendly, coffee good and the menu interesting. There are several dishes I’m very keen to try, starting with«The Full English» and«Go Bananas», and I’ll be back soon. Recommended.

Came here on an ‘average’ weekend for brunch. The coffee was pretty average, their waffle maker was broken — so couldn’t do their breakfast waffles. Went to pancakes instead. The only thing I was particularly impressed by, was the food came out not even 5 mins after we ordered!(did we steal someone elses? we’ll never know.) Good serve of bacon and pancakes, but wished I’d requested for a more crispy bacon.(And/or caramelised banana instead of fresh).

My relationship with Foam coffee bar probably classifies me as a fool. I’ve been there so, so many times, always hoping I’ll get good coffee… and then, it’s on par or worse than my previous visit. Yup, pity da fooool. Anyways, Mr T aside, I guess that I WANT to like Foam. There are so many good things about it: it’s got late trading hours, ambient afternoon light, outside couches, Top Dup donuts, it’s situated in the awesome Leedy café strip. But despite these things, in my opinion a café is classified by the quality of its coffee. And this is where in my opinion, Foam(consistently) fails dismally. Our last visit was late on Saturday afternoon before walking the dog at Lake Monger(actually, extra points re proximity to Lake Monger). We ordered a latte and mocha(I normally get a long black or flat white but ‘mocha’ is my standard when the coffee might be questionable. Kind of like dousing bad ice cream in loaddds of hot fudge). Foam doesn’t do large coffees unless you get takeaway cups, so regulars were the go(which is totally ok, each café to their own). We snagged an outside table in the sun and watched the dog snap at flies. So, the coffees. They arrived in reasonable time but were sickly pale. One marshmallow for the mocha(standard), two tiny teddies for the latte. No crema, no distinctive coffee complexity. Just coloured warm(as in probably not warm enough) milk. I should add that Foam’s edible fare is better than the coffee(other than one Top Dup donut that was so ‘crusty’ we suspected it was from the day before) so don’t let me discourage you on the food. It’s reasonably tasty. But for coffee? Maybe arrive earlier and go down the road…

I came here on a recommendation from a friend who has heard many of my coffee rants. One on the very morning where I went from one place to another searching for a coffee and breakfast. I wasn’t disappointed. I had a couple of work related training days in Leederville and living SOR this required waking up at the crack of dawn to make it in time for an 8:30AM start. And public transport to boot. I wasn’t in the best frame of mind walking in. However on BOTH mornings I was able to get a large coffee and breakfast for take away. I had a breakfast wrap the first morning and on the second day a breakfast bagel. Coffee was spectacular and gave me the caffeine boost my brain needed. The take away breakfast options didn’t leave me wishing I had chosen a sit down option instead. The EFTPOS facility made paying for coffee and breakfast efficient without the need to deal with handling money on top of juggling everything else I was carrying. And about payment for what I got, I thought it quite reasonable considering the breakfast took me through to 3:00PM.

Previous reviews below. As of today, this is one of my top 10 places for coffee in Perth. CONSISTENTLY delivering good quality and the staff are always willing to go out their way for you. Well done foam! — – 30 May, 2013 — – I come here often. I come here probably 2 – 3 times a week before Uni or to study. The coffee is always spot on, and the prices are cheap. Some of the staff(especially Casey, Lauren and Raf) really go out their way with customer service. — – 24 Oct, 2012 — – Every time I come here. It seems to get better and better. Always consistently good coffee, although food is limited(but still fresh and tasty) the friendly service makes up for it. These guys are doing it right! — – 14 Oct, 2012 — – Much better than its predecessor. A bit hesitant to try this haunted location due to the fact it used to be 130 which was also associated with greens & cock. I’ll give the bad first. I ordered the breakfast special, which was SUPERB. Salmon+Avo+pesto+poached eggs. The eggs were actually poached perfectly, which surprised me, and the avo and pesto were so fresh it was delicious. The bad part was, you advertise Salmon yet you failed not only to provide a slice of it, but instead I was given half a slice of a slice. There wasn’t even enough salmon to cover one piece of toast… I found this really disappointing. However, I still felt it was value for money. but you should not advertise Salmon when there’s barely enough for ¼ of a person. The coffee– It had a slight bitterness to it, but the froth and temperature were PERFECT(I asked for it hot and it was). It had the glossy creaminess that a latte should have, so again, not perfect, but definitely worth the $. Service– This surprised me most, the lady at the front was very cheerful, and the other lady even said hello to me for no reason. Just plain lovely staff I found that worked here. My table was very messy but they did come clean it when I asked. Hopefully they can maintain and continue to improve because as I mentioned before this particular location is haunted by the previously horrific coffee shops.

Coffee is easily one of the best on the Leedervile strip, although its a treat — my soy latte takeaway cost $ 5.70. Holy moly! The Malaysian style breakfast dish with the satay and such is amazing — highly recommended!

A late night coffee shop hallelujah! So many cafes in Perth close at 3 or 4pm, which means it’s nearly impossible to have a meeting at a café post school time, and also hard to grab a late night slice of cake post-dinner. The staff at Foam are friendly — shout out to Will the lovely barista. They have a pretty decent range of cakes and quite a few gluten free and raw options. Last night I shared with a friend the raw choc mint slice, perfect for a post dinner chocolate refresher. We also had a gluten free teacake — amazing! Other cakes that had me drooling over the display cabinet; red velvet, vanilla and chocolate layer cake, beetroot chocolate(that’s healthy right?!) and a coconut cake. There is also seating outside for people watching.

Coffee & treats are really the way to a girls heart & this place definitely knows how to work both of them in the simplistic forms, TINNYTEDDIES on the lids, the best. Always busy, but always fast service.

I went here for brunch on a Saturday morning with a friend. I ordered a skinny latte and their indo satay chicken omelette. The omelette had onions and other delicious things. It arrived with two satay chicken skewers and sambal. Everything was delicious. The sambal was spicy but not too spicy. My friend ordered ricotta pancakes and loved them. Will definitely be going to try more.

Solid coffe, crazy muffins, and a tasty toastie– would definitely come back. The scene is chill and offers good outdoor seating. I’d give it 3.5 for the dirty water glasses, but I’d rather round up than down for this place.

Need a coffee and a big muffin to start your day? Duck into Foam! While I was waiting this morning, I saw three laden plates with the new menu’s Indonesian omelette. It looked amazing — stuffed with wilted greens and fresh out of the pan. I’ll be back for a bigger breakfast on a Saturday morning, when I don’t have to whizz off to work. For me today: my long black coffee was hot, strong and a perfect accompaniment to the banana muffin I had, seemingly straight from the oven at 7.30am. I have read some of the other reviews here and I have to respectfully disagree. Definitely give Foam your time and exchange your hard-earned dollars for well-made food and coffee.

Today was my first time visiting Foam for breakfast and it was just ok. Not great, not terrible, just average. Sadly my coffee was barely warm and the food was nice but it sounded so much nicer on the menu. I had the smashed avocado which was still yummy, but not as special as I was expecting. But despite the cold coffee I do love that Foam has a lot of nice healthy menu options to choose from. It also has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and I will be back sometime to give it another go.

I popped into Foam today to grab a coffee and breaky roll as the Sunday markets weren’t on. I was pleasantly surprised with the experience, despite the large amount of tables and takeaways there were reasonably short waiting times(a few minutes to get served and maybe ten to get take aways). The café seems really popular for families as there were several tables with children running around. The coffee was above average and the roll nice despite being premade. There are some umbrellas for those sitting outside to be protected from the sun which was nice.

Pretty quirky place in the heart of leedervile, cute décor and some awesome looking food– wide range of sandwiches and healthy options from raw balls to fresh juices, some not so healthy treats too! I got a coffee that was great– they use the dark horse blend from 5 senses. Will be back for breakfast next time

Cute little coffee shop on the Leederville strip! Takeaway coffee cups are cute and the café itself wasn’t overly crowded although this was over Christmas. Ordered the fruit toast for my niece and I and it was delicious. Coffee was smooth and mocha was super chocolately, even for the 9 year old! Toast came with homemade preserve which seemed very freshly made. I will definitely be going back to check out more of the breakfast menu!

I enjoy the presentation of the tiny teddies on top of the take-away coffee cups. I think it is a unique idea. Sitting outside in hot weather trumps sitting inside this place, not sure why they don’t use their fans. The place is a completely different experience seated outside compared to inside. It’s a very busy place so be prepared to wait for juices especially. However the juices are worth the wait! I found the other customers at this place to be really nice and friendly, which gave the place a good trendy vibe.

I like Foam and reading everyone else’s reviews surprise me. Sure, the food is a bit pricey but it’s great quality and the coffee is so good! Always a great, cheery atmosphere here and the staff are friendly and always go out of their way to talk to you when you come in. Cool décor and good location to look on to busy Oxford St. Opens early and closes late which is always handy too. Can’t fault the place from my experiences here, and it’s always my preferred post-dinner caffeine hit as Foam’s long macchiato runs rings around Greens & Co. Worth a visit if you find yourself in Leedy…

It is a pity that I am giving this place 2 stars but from the looks of it you have to be rich to eat here! The menu for breakfast is quite healthy with a lot of variety. You are looking to spend a pretty penny on these items though and the servings don’t look too large either. I may be a bit critical but $ 8 for a peice of fruit loaf? Seems a bit steep for me! Their large coffee is also really not large at all which makes me wonder how small is a small coffee! yikes! The food here is quality and sourced locally but the prices are just a bit much for me.

I really like the setting here — that spot with the big table with the map painting behind it and the comfortable chairs gets just the right level of sunlight, not to mention a good strength of wifi reception. A perfect spot to pass an afternoon with some work or just alone with your own thoughts. The coffee is good, but $ 4.70 for a large takeaway, reallyyy Foam? That’s a bit much. Don’t even think about it if you’re a soy drinker either because that would bump you up to $ 5.20.
