What would a night of geeking it up on the Halo and Resident Evil Train be without Beer, Red Bull and some moderately crappy Chinese? It would be a normal weeknight actually, but you get the picture. So, before we are completely written off and have become sozzled enough to belt out some tunes on Singstar, it is of paramount importance to get a massive grease injection through some Mongolian/Satay Beef, Beef and Black Bean and some Beef and Cashew Nut… notice a pattern here? Anywho, my usual geek-it-up mate used to live around the corner from the Kensington Chinese, so often we would get take out… which would take the form of a large fried rice each when we were short of a Quid! Certainly not the best Chinese spot in town, but it does the job and the service is pretty slick.

You can tell a lot about this place before you walk in. Whenever you see an aging storefront on a Chinese restaurant, you can immediately assume two things. The first is that this place has been here for a long time, and if it wasn’t doing a few things reasonably well, it’d have shut its doors long ago. The second thing is that you know the food won’t be expensive. Otherwise, they’d have redone the signage. This place is pretty cheap, but for the money, you get a decent feed. Beef and blackbean is my usual pick, and it’s done reasonably well. I mean, this isn’t fine dining, but for a cheap takeaway, this is good stuff. It isn’t going to rock your world, but it isn’t going to break the bank.

Kensington Chinese Takeaway is a fairly beaten up little chinese restaurant on Kensington road. The sign out the front is faded and peeling. Inside are a few scanty little tables, which are designed mre for waiting for your food than for eating at. The Menu is fairly standard Chinese fare, nothing outstanding, and priced between $ 10 – 12 a meal. Serves are fairly decent, rice costs a little extra. They do pretty good soups for less than four bucks if you are on a really tight budget.
