Fantastic food, are hanging with friends catching up, over a well priced menu, fantastic portions, great atmosphere with beach side views. Highly recommend this fantastic place. Came here years ago. Will be back much sooner

Great location and great atmosphere on warmer nights, but don’t go here if you’re vegetarian and expecting good dishes. They do not have tofu and the last couple of times I’ve been, the vegetable dishes have been mostly cabbage, with very small amounts of barely cooked carrot, broccoli and cauliflower. The Pad Thai leaves more to be desired also… Definitely not even close to the best around and lacks flavour. However in previous years I have eaten some of the prawn dishes there and they were pretty nice. Other reviews are saying the food has changed a bit, so not sure how great or good value for money the prawn dishes would be now. Overall, not the place you’d go if you’re after really good Thai food. Better of travelling down to Henley Beach Rd.

I have bought takeaway from Thai Orchid in the past and always found in most satisfying. The taste hasn’t changed, but the value sure has. Paying nearly 20 dollars for a takeaway beef curry is a bit rich, sure. But then making the mistake of opening the curry first rather than the rice gave me an unpleasant discovery. I had just paid nearly 20 dollars for what was largely a curry sauce. If there was 90 grams of beef in it I would have been lucky. Times are tough, but when prices rise and value drops, it’s time to reward the establishment by simply looking elsewhere for thai

Space in spades this restaraunt is a giant in little old Henley and even the busiest nights you’ll never be strapped to find a seat. Great views of the foreshore and pretty good food with a large selection we come here often for our take away needs as everywhere else tends to be open less accomodating hours for us 9−8ers! Whilst not the fastest service it is good food and they aren’t stingy with the sauce weew! Small vegetarian selection which is better than none, one of the better thai joints on this side of adelaide! The vego garlic stirfry was sooooo delicious! We will be back!

We were seated in the outdoor undercover area with a beautiful see breeze facing the ocean. Our food was tasty, servings were large and service was friendly and helpful.

Well, Well Well… I am not sure if they have ring in kitchen staff on at present, But tonight I was bitterly disappointed with our food — I might add here that I have used this restaurant on many occasions in the past(as it is a convenient distance from Home and in a great location) but tonight was not even a patch on the past. Menu choice was Satays, Spring Rolls, Vegetable Stir fry with ginger & Chilli, Lemongrass Beef and rice. Not one hit with any Satays were over cooked, dry and frankly quite tasteless, the sauce was less the professional, the Spring rolls were«odd» with a dipping sauce that did not display the balance really needed with Asian dishes. The Vegetable stir fry was mediocre but I found little in the way of ginger and chilli — in fact it seemed to be completely absent. NOW the big kicker the Lemongrass beef — OOPS served me Lemongrass Prawns which I don’t mind normally but was NOT what I ordered — never minds I will eat it as based on the stays I think I may be dissapointed — not to be outdone, these were just passable — would not have been so bad, however I found 4 prawns that were not de-veined(not acceptable in restaurant made food) and 3 had that flowery much from the head. That just leaves the Rice — lets just say I would have been better making it at home I would love to think this was a one of, but with choices these days and the fact that it was ALL the food, I doubt I will be back or could recommend this place anymore. Such a shame

Been here a few times now and can’t fault it. Thai green curry is the best that I’ve had and I’ve been to Thailand twice! Great location and service is immaculate.

Food was only average. The waitress didn’t write my order down and gave me the wrong dish. I ordered a vegetarian dish and they gave me a beef version of the same thing. Luckily I’m not an actual vegetarian.

The Thai Orchid is on the site of the old Henley Beach Kiosk at Henley Square. Overlooking the ocean, the restaurant is an excellent spot for summer evenings and is sure to make for pleasant dining views. Seating is arranged with half indoor and half outdoor, however I reckon that the best position is indoor near the window. The restaurant itself is decked out with a diverse range of beautiful decorations. All of the decorations fit in well with the Thai theme and also positively compliment the structure of the beautiful building. Staff are very attentive and ensured that the table always had a jug of water on it. On the one particular evening that I was there though, it was quite loud as the restaurant was packed. This aside, the staff did quite a good job of being able to serve the meals for the group of 9 I was with. In terms of the menu, the restaurant offers traditional thai dishes with a quite diverse range. They also have an entire section of vegetarian dishes, so it definitely caters well in this regard. The restaurant is fully licensed with a small bar in the far corner from the door. One meal that stood out the most for me from the menu was the Massaman Beef Curry. It came out quite quickly and had a very decent portion size for the $ 17 price. Presentation of the very curry was also quite good, considering a lot of it was liquid. Rice is served in a separate dish that was shared amongst the table. It was cooked well and the grains stuck together nicely. The liquid sauce from the curry went quite nicely with the rice and there were definitely some excellent flavours and spices used. In terms of spice, it varied a little from being quite a mild curry to the higher end of the spectrum. Overall, it was definitely a good balance for me in terms of the spice level. The beef was cooked very well. I was very pleased to see that the beef was of high quality and that there were no huge chunks of fat in the dish. From a texture perspective, some of the beef was tougher than other pieces, however it all tasted very pleasant overall. I also tried a chicken and vegetable stir fry. The vegetables were seasoned well and the proportions were appropriate. The chicken tasted nice however the sauce varied from being quite bland to mild. This inconsistency was a bit of a let down however the ingredients in the dish did complement each other incredibly well. In a nutshell, this restaurant does a great job of thai food. It is authentic, priced well and there is a good variety. It was just a few little things that didn’t quite make it perfect, however I would love to go back there when it is a lot quieter to fully enjoy the service and atmosphere.

Went here for a birthday dinner after being chosen by me looking at Unilocal* reviews! On the whole the reviews were good and I was not disappointed when it came to eating. On the esplanade at Henley Square, one small complaint with the temperature at 30+ degrees was the lack of parking close by. The birthday gods were smiling on that day though and we found a park almost immediately. Inside it is dark and cool with fans spinning above. You have the choice of being seated fully inside or on an enclosed porch with views overlooking the jetty and park. The waiting staff were suitably dressed in(I expect) Thai traditional garb, and were quick to seat us and ask for our drinks. We started with some spring rolls and Goong Kar Bork which are fried prawns coated with Tom Yum paste and wrapped in rice pastry. Loved the prawns and spring rolls but the sauce for the spring rolls was not to my taste. We followed that with Pad Thai and that was very good, almost as good as the best I had tried before(being Woks Happening in Hutt St). The only thing I wasn’t a fan of with this dish is that they use minced chicken as opposed to chicken pieces. All up, though very nicely done and the food was very nice. So too was the bill when it came. A good cheap night out with a walk along the beach before making our way home.

This place is really one of relatively few places in Adelaide where you’ll be able to eat Thai food in an upmarket environment. The food is good, too. Very good. Maybe not the very best in all of South Australia, but I’d say it’d be within the top five. But, out of those five, this would probably be the best value for money. I mean, it’s a beautiful restaurant, the service is fantastic, and most of the curry dishes are around $ 18. Really, that’s pretty good for what this place is. My picks are the massaman and the red beef curry. One dish would probably nearly do two people(if you’ve also got rice, and dammit, you’d be an idiot to be eating a Thai curry without it), so make sure that you rock up as a group of three so it’s worth getting another dish to share!

For many years I knew this restaurant as the place under the Sandbar, and given its proximity to a number of other places(including the pub) I really hadn’t given it the time of day! I wont go into an indepth review of each dish I have had over the last few years I will just deal with the important stuff. It has been my belief for quite some time that you can tell how good an Asian place is(especially Thai) by the quality of their rice. Anyone can steam some ordinary white(which I often prefer) but the ones with some skill pull out all the stops and surprise the pants off you! I’m not going to say that I completely got my Astro Boy Jocks blown away, but they were certainly dislodged a bit! I’ll just say ‘Pineapple Rice’ and let your imagination do the rest!

After having my Henley Square cherry popped(can you believe I’ve never been there before), the first port of call was Thai Orchid with my boyfriend and his family. The restaurant looks as amazing from the outside as it does on the inside and has an enormous amount of tables. You would think this would make it feel crowded and congested but it almost does the opposite, instilling a warm and friendly atmosphere, like a big family sitting down to eat. We had also reserved a table on the outside enclosed deck which still offers unobstructed views of Henley Beach below. The staff were excellent and offered service to match. As a larger group we required constant topping up of drinks and more water and extra plates and sets of cutlery and they were all too happy to oblige with our ever request. We ordered an entrée platter for 5 and the size and variety of the food we were presented was impressive. Following that, the mains were also excellent and I was happy to see all of our table was served relatively close together; when that doesn’t happen it is a huge pet hate of mine. Nobody wants to be awkwardly eating by themselves because nobody else has their food. All in all, some would say the best and most traditional Thai in Adelaide but it was a nice traditional experience on a more upmarket Henley Square level.

I love this place. The food is great, prices are very decent and there’s heaps of space inside, so chances that you won’t get a table are fairly small. It’s certainly not the prettiest restaurant in terms of interior design. Quite simple and nothing special. However, they do have an open veranda that faces the beach and the view is rather amazing. Their mixed appetizer platter is great to share between two people. You’ll get a selection of spring roll, squid, chicken and more. Beware though if you’re not a big fan of coriander, since they seem to love putting it in pretty much all of their food. The Phad Thai is great, so is the chicken and eggplant cooked in a coconut milk sauce. Prices are decent, with mains ranging from 15 – 20 dollars. If you don’t know what to do for New Year’s Eve and you fancy somewhere quieter than Glenelg or the city, they’ve got a six course menu for an unbelievable price of $ 45 per person. With great wine prices and an impeccable view of the beach, you certainly can’t go wrong with that.
