The service and environment was definitely traditional to the Dimsum scene that you see everywhere. The pace, the atmosphere, the food all seemed good… but something just felt off. The taste of the dimsum was lacking flavor and man was it hard to even get the dishes you wanted. The competition here is real and to some extent I feel that the place was in over their heads with the amount of demand. I might recommend if the other dimsum places in the area were equally as «Ok»

I’ve been to Zilver many times and always love it. The trolley ladies seem to get even nicer as time goes and the food still as good. There’s always a few weird things happening: like today we had frozen Mango in the mango pancakes, but hey, just have a laugh :) Be prepared to get a slow service or have to ask for water or tea several times. The place is big so, yes, it can get loud. Don’t go there if you have a bad headache. But once you know that just relax and discover the amazing food! I’ll still give it a 4⁄5 as I love this place.

I normally don’t bother to write a review. But i think people have to know about this. Be careful when you have yumcha here. I was a regular customer here before. But today i just realized that they’re cheating. They stamp on special price where it supposed to be extra large price. It’s only 2.20 $ difference but imagine when it happens to hundres of customers there that having yumcha! They didn’t have the menu that shows which dim sum that belong to certain prices. They used to have the menu. Maybe this is to make them easier to cheat on the customer that doesn’t realize what they’re having and the price they should’ve pay. For example, prawn dumplings belong to *large stamp Prawn sesame belongs to *extra large stamp Mango pancake belongs to * extra large stamp But they stamp mango pancake on *special, whereas mango pancake should be on extra large. Be careful folks!

So close to five stars but as Paul said the dumpling on the Har Gow was a bit thick and gluggy. Talk about picky! I sometimes think the trolley ladies at Yum Cha places should be studied by quantum mathematicians, my view is they prove that time can bend. Today I was flooded with the most delicious looking dumplings and before I knew it I had four different dishes at my table and the tea hadn’t even arrived. I could not bring the word ‘no’ to my lips. Each new dish just got better. Each had a different sauce and one of them I had never seen at any other Yum Cha place. It was a pan fried pork and prawn wonton wrapped in a rice paper skin with the prawn tail sticking out and it came with a sweet vinegar sauce, a fair bit of which is on my shirt as I type this between nodding off. Man was it good! This is a great place… if Unilocal had 4 and a half this would get it.

Always super busy — which I take to be a good sign. Being so busy means that it is loud, which is fine, it isn’t a library. Good location — next to Central Station. My Yum Cha pals and I like to get a small number of plates at a time so the food is still warm when you eat it. We finish a plate and get more. But the food cart ladies don’t play that game. They saw our paltry three plates between four people and came by every four minutes to show us their carts. I really can’t complaining about the staff being too attentive and I understand they need to get customers in and out quickly but it got to the point that we felt like we were spending half the time waving the food cart ladies on. My point is — go here for the food, eat and get out quick. This is not the place for you to have a relaxing and leisurely conversation. Food is the usual Yum Cha(though a fairly good version). The egg custard tarts are a stand out.

Legit dim sum with carts, and the service is quick, brash, & impatient. Seating arrangements are not the best, as a lot of tables are not on the main cart aisles so you have to get up out of your seat and walk over to the carts to look at and receive food. Thus, you have to ask for a better table if you get stuck in a bad table, which might mean you have to wait even longer to be seated. Their egg custard was the best I’ve ever tasted. There is a bit more shrimp-based plates than I prefer. You’re coming here for standard dim sum, not for service. It’s a cleaner & larger establishment good for entertaining and something my traditional Asian father would bring relatives to, but it’s also not stellar or particularly outstanding.

Surprisingly impressed after reading reviews of here. Came for lunch on a Sunday in a group of 4 and was promptly seated. Within five minutes of sitting several staff came by offering food including specials such as calamari, white bait, bbq pork, roast pork, roast duck and crab. Typically when with a group of caucasians I tend to find service lacking but Zilver staff were attentive, including refilling our tea even without the traditional tipped pot lid. Food was good and hot. Another plus for me were the number of catonese speaking staff, as my knowledge of yum cha dishes in mandarin is lacking. Would definitely come back again for yum cha

Absolutely disgusting service, I have never been so disappointed and treated so poorly in all my life. We were totally ignored and when we finally did get service they were rude and refused to respond to requests. Head to marigold for a fast past experience, east ocean room on Pitt St for something a little more upmarket. DONOTWASTEYOURTIMEORMONEYWITHZILVER.

Very disappointing… Waited very long for basic stuff like chilli oil/sauce and a hot pot of tea. There were 4⁄5 staffs running around the restaurant but no one really serving properly. Staff attitude is a pain, especially the supervisor(I assume as she is the only one wearing black uniform). Stopped her to get something for us but totally got ignored. We were there at 9.50am Sunday and there are only 4 – 5 tables occupied. Not sure what’s the problem, the couple sat next to us doesn’t seem impressed with the whole dining experience too… In short, No proper service in this restaurant and food is very oily. We ended up paying after having 3 dim sum with no tea. Price is ridiculous too…

Big crazy yum cha. Packed on a Sunday morning. Carts come fast and furious. Standard dishes are good. Some innovative things but nothing overwhelmingly exciting. Service was pretty good for a cart based yum cha place.

Rather disappointing experience at Zilver today. I used to think the world of this place but they really undelivered on my expectations today. Service — I can empathise with the fact it was just coming up to the Sunday Lunch rush but we has to ask the hostess 3 times for fresh chilli & soy sauce before she got it right, would’ve helped if she stood there long enough to hear what we requested instead of running off so quickly. Chicken Feet — sorely disappointed today, looks as if they’ve adjusted the recipe as there was an almost fluorescent yellow stain on the plate indicating turmeric is now used? That’s new. Nothing wrong with that if the chicken feet had by flavour. Pork Dim Sim — meat was an unusual pinkish colour, had a weird texture and tasted strange. Yum Cha that gets this wrong really needs to pull up their socks, it’s like McDonalds not getting their Big Macs right! Everything else was fine, but overall based on today’s experience purely I think Zilver has gone down hill!

I bought a Roasted duck deals on Groupon and went there last week in dinner time. Service is good. Food is yum. We had chicken dim sum and mushroom dumpling 1st. And then come with the Peking duck pancake. They cut part of roasted duck and made the Peking duck pancake in front of you. And the rest they cut in kitchen. The duck was quite crispy and juicy. But a bit oily. After that they served diced duck with San Choy bow and also egg and veg fried rice. All food are good and yummy :) And the dessert is the sweet soup — black glutinous rice with sweetened sago Their dinner meals are very yummy. Went few times at night time before. It is worth to go even without coupons.

This is one of my favourite places for Sunday morning Dim Sum /Yum Cha. The prices are very reasonable, and the food is really good. Just make sure that you come before 11:30 or be very patient.

My only dim sum/yum cha in Australia, so I don’t know how it compares with others in Sydney. Decent dim sum equivalent to what we get in major cities in the US at roughly 50% higher price… For tourists I would skip as it’s in no way a special experience.

I love me some Yum Cha, and Sydney has no shortage of places to go. Zilver can be a mixed bag depending on when you go, but more often than not it’s a good experience. If you plan on going here on Sunday, show up early or wait a little while to get seated. In regards to food quality, Zilver is arguably the tastiest of Yum Cha restaurants Sydney has to offer. When it comes to service though… it’s great on some days but lacking on their busy days. There are times the trolleys never come around your table so you have to flag someone down just to get some food, or there aren’t enough people walking around refilling your cups of water/tea. However, when they aren’t swamped(cause this place is goooood) the service is superb. It’s very nice inside, and not corny looking like some other establishments. Every item you order is high quality, so don’t be afraid to try anything… even if it looks a bit foreign. Look to spend around $ 20−30PP

I just love Yum Char and Zilver is one of the best, and I must add that they do wonderful bucks party nights with private rooms available, my husband organised a night for a friend and it was from all reports wonderful, so after all the attendees raving about Zilver(sadly my husband missed the night he organised as he was held over in Singapore) we decided to take our close friends visiting from Boston to lunch. It was lovely, you name it we tried it. I always have the chicken feet, a favourite of mine and I was not disappointed, all the steamed dumplings were great. Between all of us we tried some great desserts, custard tarts a weakness of us all. I need an excuse to go back again!
