Okay — I am going to be quite honest. My friend and I came here seedy, scattered, and without an ounce of decent, sober brain in our skulls. My experience here may have been way too overblown… It’s funny that this business has chosen the name«American Hotdogs». Being an American myself, the idea that hotdogs are our signature staple food is a bit too overblown. Sure, it’s tradition to grab a hotdog at a baseball game, but Peking Duck hotdogs? Not really«American» — LOL~ Ambiance & Customer Service: Don’t expect much in either of these categories. This joint is pretty much strictly for takeaway, with only a few stools for you to sit on. Grab some hotdogs to go — you won’t get much of a pleasant stay. The employees are efficient, but not very friendly. Food: One positive I have to add is that the hot dogs are pretty cheap for Melbourne standards. 1 hot dog would set you back 4.50 whereas a lot of other places would be charging maybe 6 or 7 bucks per dog. Buffalo Hotdog I recommend this particular flavour. The buffalo wing sauce on top was tasty and the celery stick was a perfect compliment. Peking Duck Hotdog DONOTRECOMMEND. I loveeee Peking Duck. But I think it is one of those flavours that just does not belong in hot dog form! Or maybe the place just doesn’t pull it off very well — I do not know. But they had that sweet sauce flavour that didn’t go well with the porky dog. Chips Average. Nothing too special and unfortunately lacked a bit of flavour. Thankfully, you don’t need to pay any extra for ketchup or mayonnaise so just ask for some and you’re good to go! — Overall, there’s nothing particularly bad about American Hotdogs. They do standard-quality dogs for a price well worth it if you’re hungry down Glenferrie Road. Another positive is that most days of the week, they are open until the wee hours in the morning for some late-night hunger fix!
