It’s not like me to be so fussy — I try really hard to be fair-​minded, especially considering the fact that negative reviews may damage people’s livelihoods — BUT sometimes. most times. three strikes and you have to go out!!!
And, so it is with BARFAN HUT Chinese Restaurant, Riversdale Road, Hawthorn East… and us…
I’ve tried my hardest. but it’s just been such a disappointment. every time.
Tonight we ordered:
6 large Vegetarian Spring Rolls: got the mini ones; they had ‘meat’ in them; they were floury and soggy as always; no dipping sauce.
6 home-​made Dim Sims: pastry so thick it was still raw; no soy sauce.
1 x serve Mongolian Beef with Rice: got some sort of beef with noodles dish.
1 x serve Lemon Chicken with Rice: got a chicken and noodle dish.
1 x serve Sweet Sour Pork (no batter) with Vegetables and Rice: got steamed rice, battered pork and pink sauce; no vegetables; most of the oily dense stodgy batter balls were empty ie no meat.
3 x cans Lemonade
Cost: $ 54+
We didn’t make a fuss — just accepted it quietly — but never again — I don’t know — have we just had the misfortune of always turning up on a not-​so-​good night — surely it can’t always be like this — they wouldn’t have lasted… would they???
