The Haighs chocolate pandas are pretty good, hey at least you can get one good experience out of Wang Wang and Funi. Now, I don’t find it hard to walk past Haighs, ever. not even when it’s that time of the month and I may just kill someone for a hit of cocoa. I like to look in the windows but that is about as far as it goes for me, I think this is due to the price of Haighs products. For those of you who have a chocolate allowance each week I say, feast in style, even the wrapping makes my mouth water and if chocolate is your vice then indulge in style. This outlet is smaller than the one on Rundle Mall so if you’re looking for huge variety and extravagant gift baskets then perhaps go there. Chocolate Panda = $ 9.95, it’s worth digging up a tenner for this one.

How do you top Haigh’s city stores? By going to the one beside the seaside. This store is in the centre of Glenelg’s seven-day shopping precinct — just a five-minute walk from the beach. CHOCOHOLICHEAVEN I like to buy the 300-gram panned milk chocolate macadamia bars and head to the beach to share with my mates. My family in Britain love it when I bring them over Haigh’s as a souvenir. ADELAIDEZOO I like to buy gifts from the panda range to support Adelaide Zoo, plus they can use gifts such as the panda money boxes containing Haigh’s chocolates again. SINGLEORIGIN For a little taste of luxury, Haigh’s has added Single Origin chocolate to its collection with three premium quality tablets made with beans from Ecuador(premium dark chocolate with 71% cocoa), Peru(premium dark chocolate with 64% cocoa) or Vanuatu(premium milk chocolate with 44% cocoa). The bars cost $ 10.25.

Haigh’s is a South Aussie icon that’s achieved national and international success. One taste test and you’ll know why. And yes with every purchase, or upon request, you get a little freebie piece of heaven. This is the top shelf stuff, it’s the kind of quality only money can buy(and probably a fair bit more coin than you usually fork out for choccies). From the cabinet full of delicious truffles, to the boxed hand-made soft and hard centres, it’s all good. For the puritans out there the plain milk block is equally as divine as its more complex counter-parts. And the Speckles remind me of my childhood, albeit a more glamorous one than the real one involving Freckles. If you’re trying to cut down on the chocolate(though why would you with a store like this around?) I find it very satisfying to buy the little Teddy Bears or Frogs as one goes further than a hunk of the cheaper stuff. My one big whinge(oh I hate when we fight) was they ran out of most stock the day before Easter — yes RAN out! A testament to their popularity but come on you’ve been in business for 95 years and all you do is make chocolate which Easter just may have a little something to do with. But Haigh’s even with that kind of a right balls-up I just can’t stay mad at you. In a nutshell — melts in your mouth!
