My husband and I brought our bicycles here last week to get serviced and were very happy with a two day turnaround on complete tuneups for our titanium road bikes. They even attached the lights we bought for us. The staff was knowledgeable about local bike laws(which we don’t know because we are American) and seemed pretty chatty and friendly. So glad to have a bike shop in the neighborhood.

The first time I took my bike for a tune up they told me they had replaced my old break pads. I paid, the got home and realized they hadn’t replaced a thing. I went back a couple of days later and told them what happened. The lady insinuated that I was lying. In the end, they did replace the old ones for new ones, but it wasn’t a good experience. The second time I went there I was told I needed to replace one of my shift levers, as mine wasn’t working properly. And so I did, and paid a ridiculous amount of money. Later that year I went back home(i’m not from Australia), and I told an old friend of mine who’s a bike mechanic that I had to buy a new lever and explained what had happened to mine. He told me that the mechanics had no idea what they were doing and and showed me how the problem I had with my shift lever was easily fixed by just cleaning it. It was a good thing cause months later the same thing happened to my other shift lever, and I went to inner city cycles and mentioned that maybe it was jut matter of cleaning the lever. And so they did, and I didn’t have to buy another shift lever like the first time. So in general. I’ve had really bad experiences at this store. I’m sure some employees at the store are super professional and care about their customers, but I had the bad luck of bumping into the ones that had no idea what they were doing, or that were not willing to put that extra effort to please the customer. I now avoid going there, even though it’s just a couple of blocks from where I live.

The vibrant blue façade of Inner City Cycles assures that you can’t miss it. It is an impressive local shop that carries road, mountain, and hybrid bicycles. Not sure which one you want? The staff is qualified to explain the different types of bicycles and help you pick the one best suited for you. I had my hybrid bicycle taken in for maintenance and the mechanic did a phenomenal job. While the mechanics at Inner City Cycles are very talented and professional, the customer service in the front the shop is appalling. I came back a week after having my bike repaired just to pump a flat tire. When I asked if this could be done, I was rudely directed to pump it myself. Just as I was leaving the store, I was unexpectedly stopped by an employee and charged $ 5. I pumped MYOWN tire with AIR and was charged for this? I found this unacceptable, especially since I had that same bicycle repaired at the store a week earlier. It’s unfortunate that the excellent mechanical service isn’t reflected in the customer service.
