This place is absolutely PERFECT for the avid camper, or the backpacker about to leave sunny Perth and discover the wonders of the world.
Mountain Designs, quite simply, stocks anything and everything you could possibly need — or imagine you’ll need — in terms of outdoor clothing.
Waterproof jackets, thermals, vests… All types of clothes for EVERY type of conceivable activity and weather condition. The range they have is actually kind of staggering.
The clothes are a bit — ok, a lot — pricey, but in a place like this you’re paying for quality and peace of mind. And to be honest, these are the types of clothes that will last you years (provided you don’t lose them while hiking through Europe or something) so Mountain Designs is definitely value for money.

Where the nearby Kathmandu is a pricey place to pick up the basics of outdoor clothing, Mountain Designs stocks pretty much every kind of outdoor apparel you could imagine. Whether you’re looking for thermals or even mountain climbing gear, the knowledgeable staff here will be able to help you. You can deck yourself out in clothing for any imaginable weather condition, have the right shoes for any terrain and deck out your camping setup with some great bush-​going toys. If you’re into rock climbing, they have a whole section devoted to that, though being a bit of a hobby specialty area I find it’s worth checking prices in store with those you can get on the Internet. Also, while their tent section is OK, I find there is a better range at dedicated camping stores like Ray’s Outdoors on Leach Hwy in Melville. If you are just after a basic two-​man tent, Big W in Spearwood. Otherwise, this is one of my favourite places for scoring outdoor gear and I thoroughly recommend it — it also makes a kick arse gift voucher, as pretty much anybody who has ever been camping will find something they want in here.
