A Chinese Massage Centre tends to conjure up images of a very zen-like experience. Perhaps some soothing oriental music, some incense burning, maybe even a mystical décor akin to a Buddhist temple? Perhaps I have more of an inclination for kitschy cosmopolitanism than I though. The Chinese Massage Centre is, shall we say, low key, low maintenance and best of all, convenient. It’s central in Fremantle, just across the road from Coles and within hop-scotch distance of ATM’s(they don’t accept EFTPOS). The inside of the parlour is very, very bare, and not in a minimalist kind of way. Nit-picking aside, the massages are cheap. If you’re after a relaxing half hour, try another of Fremantle’s massage parlours, because this place performs massages the traditional, and slightly painful, Chinese way. The pushing, stretching and kneading my masseuse performed was hardly a soothing experience, but man it hurt so good! I paid $ 20 for 20 minutes without any oils, a fair price for the service I received. Great joint if you’re after a massage on a whim.
