Love this fruit and veg market. Love the price, love the atmosphere, love the free samples without scrutiny.
I say free samples without scrutiny because there are always a delicious range of fruit samples on offer — mandarins, mangoes, apples, pears and other varieties, depending on the season.
And there’s no need to feel guilty about sneaking a free sample when you have no intention of buying anything. Hey, you might buy something from there, one day. I have often got the disapproving look of Baker’s Delight staff when I go to try the custard scroll and don’t feign enough possible purchase interest.
I don’t even bother utilising my prodigious acting skills here — they really don’t care if you have a sneaky try of the delicious goodies on hand.
Chi Chi Fruit and Veg is located in the Freo Markets so the ambience is always top notch. And the fruit is high quality too. The staff are friendly and, given the location, you can wander from fresh and succulent fruit to tantalising chocolate, coffee and other goodies in a matter of moments.

Forget buying your veggies and fruit in a supermarket. If you are able to get here at a weekend then there really is no need to buy generic veg from your nearest multi-​million dollar store.
This veg stad screams quality and character and will always offer you the choice of tasting your fruit first, a bonus with mangoes and peaches (nothing worse than a bad mango).
The most fun you will have here is on a Sunday evening before the yard closes for the week. Everything is packed into bags and the prices are shot beyond the floor. As you walk around all you will here is a chorus of veg workers screaming ‘one dollar one dollar’. Ona good day you will come out with a bag of tomatoes, mushrooms, avocadoes, bananas and potatoes for abuot $ 4!!.

Taking over a large portion of the Yard at the Fremantle Markets, Chi Chi is a fruit and vegetable stall of high repute, and the object of my admiration. All its produce is fresh and delicious, and far cheaper than you’ll find it in any supermarket. The people who work there are always really friendly, and they seem like they’re having fun. I would be too, surrounded by all those delicious fruits. If you go near the end of the market on Sunday, you can get yourself some absolute bargains — that’s how I tend to do my fruit and veg shopping for the following week! They are always very generous with their free samples, so you can try before you buy — or you can just walk around nibbling free fruit (sssh).
