Yummmmmmm, I’ve been going to this place for years on and off but have only ever had their chips and burgers. This was until a recent visit by relatives from abroad. They were after something halal and it was after 8pm at night. Ali babas is open 7 days a week and open until quite late. They had kebabs and they looked great so I thought I’d give one a try. It was absolutely delicious. The pita bread was on the thicker side so it was extra tasty. Price is on par with other kebab places. It’s not called 40 dishes for nothing, so many options, some examples are kebabs to burgers to salads to Turkish delight.

It’s hard to review a kebab shop, as they all fade into each other at the time of night that I generally stumble through their doorways, but this one is pretty great. I’m generally lured there by the exotic sounds of what I assume to be Arabic pop music and then get stuck into one of their epic, grease-tastic kebabs. Service is polite and generally pretty quick. I can’t imagine why you’d be after a kebab during the day, but if you are strolling past and feeling snacky, these guys sell some pretty mean Turkish Delight for a couple of dollars.

It looks like your standard kebab shop, but really it is so much more than that. It sells a wide range of different greasy yet tasty foods. This has to be the perfect drunken night out eatery. I have had a few too many drunken nights out in Fremantle and this place is always there to keep me happy. I enjoy the chips greatly! At places like this being a vego I don’t really have much of a choice, so it is amazing when the choice I do have is delicious! Nailed it!

It’s a damn shame when sometime after 9pm the kitchen at the Norfolk shuts. So what I do when I’ve got a heavy case of the drunken munchies, is I wander on down South Terrace to Ali Baba and order a greasy serving of chips smothered in tomato sauce. I am very particular about my chips, and not even the messiest of nights can dull my chip perfection sensors. They must be well-cooked, yet absorb my pool of ketchup adequately. I don’t like thin chips either, but thankfully, these guys are the thick cut type which are perfect for my carb cravings. Ali Baba has their deep frying technique down pat, and I’ve got to say, they were disgustingly good and only cost me near $ 5. Props to Ali for keeping the drunken people of Fremantle well sated in times of need.

They’re not joking here, there does seem to be about 40 dishes. It stands out as a Turkish Kebab shop from the front but on further inspection they serve all kinds of burgers, fish and chips. The kebabs are good and taste even better after a good Sunday session. This place gets busy after dark but there are still a number of people who frequent it during the day for a panini, kebab or even just chips and gravy. They have been blessed with pavement seating situated right out the front of their shop and an ATM next door.

This place is perfect for when you need something hot, tasty and filling in a matter of minutes. Serving traditional Turkish gozleme, pida, kebabs and other dishes like fish and chips or pizza, there’s something to suit every fast food fix. I really like the chicken, spinach and cheese pida — sort of like a Turkish panini — it’s warming and spinachy and chickeny and delicious. On a Saturday night break from work I ate one of these and rested my weary feet at the tables out on the terrace whilst being serenaded by a duo of buskers — an idyllic kebab shop experience if ever I’ve had one.
