Lovely atmosphere, and simply amazing food with really friendly staff. I had a porterhouse steak, cooked to perfection with a brilliant herb and bacon mashed potato side. Highly recommended.

Not bad, not bad at all. Great selection of beers on tap and friendly staff behind every bar. I came here for a function that was well catered for and with ample room and a great feel. So, if you are looking to have an event this place might just be for you. It is pretty easy to find with a great location just behind Fitzroy Gardens. Although I don’t live anywhere in the area nearby, I can see myself coming back here.

I was a little bit confused when I received an invitation to a wedding at the Pumphouse — after all, it’s a pub. Little did I realise, there’s actually a function room at the back of the pub that apparently hosts weddings all the time! I’ve got to say, the food at Pumphouse was easily the best I’ve ever had at a wedding. They did three courses, and the main(pumpkin risotto in my case) was awesome. Given function food is often bland and cold, it bodes pretty well for what their regular pub food must be like. The service was nicely paced with small rests between courses, but not so long that people got hungry and distracted. The function room itself was good for the number of people and casual style of the wedding, with space for dining and a dance floor, however the hard floors meant later in the evening my feet were quite sore. The staff were excellent — very cheerful and they kept everyone’s glasses full. I think it would make an excellent spot for work Christmas parties and alike.

The Pumphouse Hotel is a multi faceted pub that caters for those wanting a drink, a bite to eat, or a function. The impressive façade recalls an English Pub from the outside, all old brick and iron gates with huge windows looking out on the gardens on the opposite side of Nicholson St. The interior of the front bar is pretty standard with a large bar and the usual mix of local and imported beers on tap, however the menu really sets this place apart from other pubs that offer run of the mill food options. Yes, they have a Parma, a burger and Fish and Chips, but it’s a far cry from what you’ll get elsewhere. Here at The Pumphouse, its all ‘hand crumbed’, and ‘beer battered’ versions of standard pub fare. Check out the website to see the seasonal menu for yourself. My personal experience with The Pumphouse was in ‘The Conservatory”, the function room at the back of the building. With a separate side entrance through iron gates, and a full glass ceiling, this is where my lovely lady and I hosted our Wedding Reception. The staff were fantastic and catered to our every need. They swapped the beer on tap to our favourites, and changed the menu to be 90% vegetarian to suit our needs. We hosted over 120 people here, and not one complained about the service or experience they had. Again, it was the amazing food that won many over, and with the large room being quite a blank canvas; it can either adapt to your own style, or remain a clean open space for your own function.
