It was the geometric pastel coloured butter dishes in the window that caught my eye. For about 30 seconds I stood there contemplating what it would mean to have one in my life. «Oh it would look so great on my bench top, it would go with my platters… but I’d have to start buying butter again. And I wouldn’t be able to stop eating it, slathered on to bread. Which means I’d have to start eating bread more… dear god, I’m going to gain 5kg if I buy that butter dish!» Either way, I walked in and looked at everything else in the store. From necklaces to big wire baskets for storing fruit or nic-nacs, to kids brightly coloured leggings and tiny-weeny pot plant holders that hang on the wall, this place has a little bit of everything. The perfect place to buy someone a thoughtful gift. Or to buy yourself an awesome butter dish.

Little Salon on Gertrude curated such that when you enter the store, you would want to spend all your money on tiny decorative pieces /costume jewellery /ships in bottles etc. My most memorable moment here was when I purchased a bow tie. The shop assistant was nice enough to bring out something of an opposing colour so that I could see how it would look like against different colours/fabrics. Mind you, this is not a high end menswear store where everyone is trained to do so. 5 stars for service.
