Decidedly average in every way. I should’ve trusted my instincts and avoid eating at places with pictures on their menu. The service is slow and inattentive(many people just gave up and left). The food is really bland and low quality. Not even the guacamole was freshly made. There is an option of mild, medium and hot. We tried the medium and it wasn’t even mild. Even the hottest hot sauce(which is the only way to add flavour) wasn’t even medium. I wouldn’t come back here when there are so many better Mexican restaurants in the city.

I visited the restaurant and informed them that I’d use my scoopons. It all went fairly well until the food was brought to the plate. We discovered that our burritos were 40% smaller than the one at the next table. The nachos were served on such a small plate. Poor show Hecho, terrible strategy. Scoopons are used to lure new customers into the business, and you’ve managed to use them to work against you.

Another fantastic establishment. Got to come back for more food on the menu … cheap imported Montereys beers at $ 4 too. Just not sure about the fascination of skulls and semi-naked(man/woman) with a ram head?

Ok food. Not overly expensive but not extraordinary either. Corn chips as an entrée is a very small portion for that price. Burrito was cold in the middle and not very nice presented. Pulled pork Quesadillas were better than the rest. Service was nice but slow. The interior of the place looks nice and can distract from the mediocre food.

Gorgeous Melbourne weekend weather plus a hankering for Mexican food saw a road trip(perhaps a slight exaggeration when you live 15 kms away) to Fitzroy to check out Hecho en Mexico as part of the Vegan Day Out weekend on Sunday. A perfect day for outside dining, my lunch time compadre and I grabbed a table on Brunswick street, and perused the menu for vegan options. I settled on the veganised Quesadilla(mild…for I am a spice wuss) while my friend chose the vegan version of the Burrito(hot…for she is the spice master). The food arrived fairly quickly, which was great, but while my Quesadilla was helped by the lashings of salsa I applied to it, it mostly tasted like a cheese toasty… a nice cheese toasty, but nonetheless… a cheese toasty. In retrospect, I should have perhaps paid the extra couple of dollars to up the ante to the ‘Quesadilla Grande’ so that 1. I could just say the word ‘Grrrrrrrande’ complete with trilled ‘r’, and 2. the fillings had more chance to balance out the cheesiness. Also, if it were mine to do over again, I may even have asked for the medium spicy version, rather than the mild to see if the cheese toasty comparison waned a little in my head. The burrito ordered by my lunch buddy was HOT(I had a little taste… then copious amounts of water), but a far tastier option than my Quesadilla. Both dishes looked rather plain when served though, and to be honest, for the price I think there are far tastier and more aesthetically pleasing Mexican adventures to be had just down the road a ways in Gertrude Street. Also, I am not sure how I feel about the Hecho en deco, some of the interior wall art was a little, um… Hannibal-esque? Still, staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and if you are OK with meh-xican and couldn’t be bothered walking the extra blocks to Gertrude Street, then sure, go check out Hecho en Mexico(but perhaps opt for the medium spicy and extra fillings where possible).

Though an awesome location, this corner shop in the middle of Fitzroy seems to have changed hands several times in the past few years, and the people of Hencho en Mexico seem to have not redecorated since opening up shop here recently. There is a bit of dat of the dead paraphernalia strewn about but overall the décor is plain and awkward. The food is okay, perhaps better if you’re nearing the end of a late night of boozing in the area. The portions are quite small and there are some interesting ingredient choices, such as broccoli on the nachos. Adds some colour, but not much taste.

Pretty average Mexican food and a little over-priced for the quality. My mini burrito was filling enough for me but as usual their hottest wasn’t hot enough. Also there was no cheese in it :(Having said that they use potatoes in the veg mix which was good! And they have $ 3 tinnies. Good enough but nothing to write home about.
