One of the good things about going to a restaurant(or a pub in this case) with a group of people is that you get to take photos of a whole range of food, though since I only tend to eat one dish at a time I can only comment on the steak sandwich that I had, which was pretty cool. This isn’t a bad pub, and the customer service is pretty cool, especially since my friends discovered that the steak and red wine pies turned out to be chicken pies. Okay, they weren’t fussed, but when they pointed it out the staff were more than willing to change their dishes, and when they said that they were happy with what they had, they all landed up with a free drink anyway. So, I have to say that I do quite like this pub, especially with the collection of beer bottles, and the decent selection of drinks available. Oh, and the steak sandwich wasn’t bad either.

Great locals’ pub. Food has picked up, but there are still cost effective choices. Duck on your way into the gents. Trust me.

I really like the Lord Newry. It is old school(contrary to other reviewers, I don’t see it as fancy pants), and nothing flash, but they have some great beers on tap, their parma is a good feed, and it’s good to drop by and watch the footy while playing a game of snooker.

Sometimes you just need a local. Nothing too flash, just right, with a friendly crowd of which is made of a nice mix of ages. If there’s a match, a game or a cup to run, the TV in the corner has it on so you won’t miss a thing. This is why I like this pub. You can go there when an event is on and watch it with a group of friends and friendly strangers. Or if that’s not your thing, there’s a pool table and dining room to stuff your gullet with. Serving all the usual pub favourites, it’s a great place to get a meal. I had a friend that was enjoying her vegie burger so much she didn’t want to put it down to look at the Melbourne Cup. Everything else became superfluous to her. For a moment, it was just her and the burger and nothing else mattered. That’s true love.

Located on the quiet end of Brunswick Street as Fitzroy turns into Fitzroy North, Lord Newry Hotel is one of your standard Australian pubs. Serving modern Australian pub foods such as parmas, bangers and mash, and burgers, Lord Newry Hotel doesn’t offer anything mind blowing, but the food is substantial and moderately priced($ 19). They have the usual Australian beers on taps. Because of its location, it probably doesn’t get as busy as the Napier or the Standard, which are more centrally located in Fitzroy. When we went there for a friend’s going away party, there were a fair number of people on a Sunday evening. There’s nothing really memorable about the place, but at the same time, I do recall having a good time. I probably wouldn’t pick this place to go to, but if someone else did and I was in the area, I would.

The Lord Newry is a bit of a fancy pants ‘pub’ in the heart of ‘I’m a young urban professional person with disposable income yet I want to live in the heart of Fitzroy’ Fitzroy. The place screams of private school wankers drinking over-priced beer and leering at private school girls in flowing dresses and sipping Chardonnay. It lacks any real-pub atmosphere and the place just reeks of trying too hard to be something in a possibly leafier suburb like from where its patronage hails. The other shit thing about the Lord Newry is the location right beside Edinburgh Gardens. This means that every ‘urban’ Sunday-afternoon park dwelling type will flock to the Newry for a ‘Sunday session’ once they’re done playing Frisbee with their private school alumni friends. I guess it serves a purpose of allowing networking among a close-knit ‘community’ of professional types, but for the average chick/dude, you’ll find friendlier environs in a supermarket.
