Perfect bar for a casual meal or drink. Not too pub-y but also not in the too tacky or fancy bar genre. They have music, can book tables and a good menu. We ordered sliders, haloumi salad and the vego platter and it was more than enough. Good wine list too. Highku recommend as good non pub option for when the occasion calls.

Brillant in it’s beer selection simplicity. Murray’s is permanent with a few others on rotation. Simple but effective. Stop in at happy hour and have a schooner of Murray’s and a $ 5 burger — you’ll be out $ 9. The view from the front seats – fantastic. Just watch Erko go by.

I like hive bar for it’s $ 10 cocktail nights. Espresso Martini relieves my depresso. The staff are all pretty cool, and even though it’s a small cramped space, it provides just the right ambiance for after work drinks. The food here is phenomenal. The menus are presented inside old Vinyl record covers, ours was the sounds from Hitchcock films, which was just awkward enough to laugh at. We had the platter that included Kangaroo kebab sticks, pâté… oh my. the pâté. Other charcuterie standard fare and lebanese bread. I think around $ 30 rods, but well worth it for a work weary start to the weekend. You can also hire the upstairs room for your party. The craft beer selection is off the hook with some nice IPAs, Young Henrys on tap as well as others in the fridge. Get on down here after work on a Friday night.

Friendly staff, some very nice pizzas, a great range of local beers, cosy interior and cool music(refreshingly all played from vinyl) all made for a fun night out.

Had walked past this little bar numerous times on my way to Newtown, and always meant to check it out but never quite gotten around to it. Now I wish I’d skipped Newtown all those times and just gone there. Funky little cocktail bar. The place is quite small, with three almost distinct sections. There are some window seats and stools around the bar, then a couple of bigger tables more designed for eating at the back of the ground floor, and another area upstairs. It got a bit tight at times, but the fact I was there with a group of 12 people probably didn’t help. And even at its busiest, it was never so noisy that we had trouble talking. They don’t have a huge range of beer/cider on tap, but that isn’t really why you go to this kind of place. Their cocktails on the other hand were delicious. Particularly recommend the chilli cherry ripe cocktail, which was pretty spectacular. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Had a chat with one of the bartenders about an event they’d been trying to organise for ages and had finally come off. He was pretty excited about it. The food was also good. Only got light food, not meals, but the cheese platter was excellent, and the chips were obviously not from a packet and were delicious. Would definitely recommend this place. Plan to go back myself as often as possible.

For me the Hive Bar is an afternoon place. If you get the limited outdoor seating you are able to enjoy a large selection of drinks while watching the world pass you by. Share some tasty food. Staff are always friendly and fun as too are the patrons.

Everything you want in your small local bar. A variety of local and imported beer(I recommend the Boston’s Lager), the best wine list in the area, and a menu of pub grub that shames the neighboring Rose of Australia(I recommend their pizzas). Happy Hour is every day 4 – 6 for $ 4 schooners. They are open all day and also do a mean coffee and breakfast.

I was only lucky enough to go in store briefly here for a brewsky while on a food tour of Sydney but what impressed me the most about Hive Bar was the wonderful service, clean floors and diversity of menu and coffee offerings this place had to provide clients outside of its nightlife entertainment. I also admire the fact that The Hive Bar has embraced its local, inconveniently located, smallness and tried to offer local flavourings on its menu, inlcuding sourcing local brews from St Peters Brewhouse! I tried the E’Vile(a.k.a the Erskenville) brew on tap and was blessed with a deliciously pleasant boldly going where no man has gone before type beer! I am definitely coming back for brunch, lunch or dinner and one of their many themed nights on my next adventure to Sydney!

This cool, eclectic bar and host to the best wine list in Newtown is evocative of the European café scene. You’ll find interesting art on the walls, cast-off furniture pieces, a flutter of activity, and music that we just don’t get enough of anymore. You won’t find TV screens, pool tables or poker machines(excellent). A great place to pop in on a lazy Sunday afternoon for some delicious gourmet pizza and great soul/reggae, or a deep and meaningful discussion about life over a glass of Cabernet. You can rent the upstairs room for functions.

Yes, you want to know what goes on behind these doors. Driving past on the weekend at nights, it is so tempting to stop by and check it out. Being a small premises it is packed and the staff look like they really get into it too. The bar screams fun basically, there is no dancing it’s just drinks and share plates, but they do offer a great range of beers from micro-breweries. White Rabbit, Pigs Fly and Mountain Goat to name a few. They definitely do encourage the business of groups or at least couples, it’s not really a place you could grab a quiet drink on your own. Highly enjoyable.
