Many years ago I held classes here to teach people about natural skincare and how to make their own from scratch. During the process of organising the whole set up of hiring a room, I found the staff to be very helpful in accomodating my idea and also they had a scheme in place whereby they paid for advertising in the local Messenger newpaper. Ok it’s a Council incentive but it’s one of the few where the individual doesn’t have to spend a fortune in advertising in the first place. Having said this I don’t know if this is still the case as my experiece was a few years ago but if I were to do it again, there would be no hesitation in going back to the Eastwood Community Centre. The atmosphere is relaxed and very community orientated, I didn’t get the impression that it was run with a clenched fist by it’s owner(the local Council) and the centre organisers had at least some autonomy to run the centre as they saw fit.

This is one of those lovely suburban community centres that is very welcoming and caters to everyone in the community. The centre invites locals to drop in for a chat and a cuppa during the normal opening hours, but it’s open at other times too to cater for the various health and fitness, support groups and specialists classes. I’m a big fan of the Thursday morning yoga with Dana. It’s also a great venue to hire for birthday. I’ve been here for a sit down dinner in the hall for a 50th with a catering company making good use of the small kitchen to feed the 100+ crowd. Our family has also used the smaller back room, rear garden and play area to celebrate a birthday for 20 – 25 people. It’s a great venue if your own backyard is too small, but you want that warm and homely feel. I hear from other mothers that it’s playgroup is popular too.
