I particularly love all the stores down George Street because they all seem to keep a little something from the original building, or try keep that rustic vintage feel, and Harpers Emporium is the same. With the beautiful large store front window displaying all the goodness they house(I was particularly fond of their French maid feather dusters), the concrete floor at the front of the shop works well with the dark wood shelves, tables and cabinets filled with scented candles, children’s toys and little homewares. Towards the end of the store the old wooden floorboards start and coincide beautifully with their light and pastel palette selection of soft cashmere sweaters and other luxurious garments. Here you can also find a small selection of jewellery from local designers, one I love is Pinchandspoon who make the most stunning necklaces out of vintage and recycled fabrics embellished with beads, crystals and pearls; each unique and each more stunning than the next. Simply an amazing little boutique that everyone with an appreciation for beautiful things will like.

There’s a few cute boutiques nestled within East Fremantle, and Harpers Emporium is one of them. The store is a gift shop for those with impeccable taste, a love of fine craftsmanship, and those who are up for supporting independent designers. A word of warning though — you’ll only be gifting yourself if you don’t be careful. As soon as you enter the store, this amazing scent hits you. It’s all orangey and lively and mildly spicy, and I’m guessing it’s coming from their abundance of candles, bath products and perfumes. They all smell delicious and are packaged up all luxurious like. They also have a good range of buttery-soft leather hang bags, which you’ll pay a pretty penny for. Their home wares are similarly priced. I spied some cushions which looked a whole lot like something Romance Was Born would do if they expanded into haberdashery. As for their clothing, expect the same style of conservative, luxuriant clothing that you’d find in Fremantle boutiques Pekho or Morisson. All made of sensuous and expensive materials, and aimed at ages 30+. Keep an eye out for this one if you’ve got a special occasion coming up. I’m particularly in love with their feather dusters!
