Eveleigh Hotel

The Eveleigh is my local and has a great atmosphere with lots of friendly patrons, a good selection of drinks and great food. The veggie curry was excellent as well as the halloumi salad that was on special.

I used to live two streets away when this was first a beaten down old man pub and then what seemed like perma-​closed. But now it is a pretty dang great little pub that feels like a neighbourhood bar. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it was a warm night and sitting out front with cool kids appearing in twos from the gloom really really put me in mind of Bushwick. When did Darlington morph into Brooklyn? It was surreal. Anyway, the staff on the bar were sweet (I felt for the long-​suffering girl who had to usher everyone inside after 10pm) and the clientele were super friendly (we were offered a table-​share by some really nice folks who it turned out lived opposite) and the food looked terrific (and /​is/​terrific, according to our new friends) and in keeping with local tradition dogs are welcome inside. If you can score a table on the footpath it is the bomb-​digitty; you can kick back and watch SUVs fail to navigate the tiny roundabout. (Pffft. Tourists.) It’s a pity they don’t have more beers on tap but then it is a pretty small pub. A boutique pub? And there’s a pool table and Thursday night trivia!
