The Midnight Shift

As a visitor, this was one of the more popular bars that I’ve heard of in Sydney.
In a nutshell, the atmosphere is not too bad, the crowd is a bit clique-​y, the drinks are a bit more expensive, the drag acts are fantastic and the floors are very sticky. Takes FOREVER to get a drink however. The bartender on the night was also new, he didn’t know any of the drinks we wanted which didn’t help.

This will always be second on my list of places to go and shake my groove thang when I paint the town a bright (and slightly sweet) shade of pink.
I’ll confess that I’ve only been in to the bar since the renovations have been completed, and not in to the club.
Renovated or not though, the midnight shift would’ve always met the expectations of that gay guy and his posse wanting to hit the town and let loose.
I’ve never paid more than $ 9 for a drink here, but I’m not an adventurous drinker, so make sure you top up that shiny platinum Visa card before you head on down.

Sadly the Midnight Shift is not the place to be while it is being renovated. There is only a small bar area that is open up until 10pm and then the other bar opens. The billiards table takes up too much room and I nearly got hit in the eye with the cue stick. I know it was a little dim in the bar but I don’t need to loose an eye. ha. The dancing does not really start until about 11.30 and the first show was at 1pm. far too late for this little duckie. I enjoy a drink, a dance, good company, good music and a show but I am not going to wait all night for it. The bouncers are lovely. there is no attitude for the more mature guy (which I have experienced at another place).
I hope this venue will have a spark of the old Midnight Shift when the renovations are completed. However I hope there is not a surcharge for the right to step into this hotel when the ground floor reopens. Bring back the humour, glitz and prizes earlier in the evening.

This used to be my favourite place to go… Not entirely sure what happened… But it’s dead and the atmosphere is terrible. I went there a few weeks ago and downstairs was closed due to renovations so I proceeded to go upstairs… When I got to the entry I was told it was $ 20 to get in… I simply walked out. I can understand paying for arq but not being forced to pay entry to help cover costs for the new renovations.
Sunday nights used to be a lot more busy… nowadays it is so quiet I don’t understand how they afford to stay open. Maybe this club is dying due to the new lockout laws… I feel disappointed as I have been a loyal patron of this place for 6 years. Maybe it’s time to make a better plan and hopefully get back the old crowd who made this club a success!

I have yet to find a lesbian bar in Sydney. But for a lazy people watching weekend, Midnight Shift has got the crowd for it.
The atmosphere on Saturday night was decent but packed. 85% of the crowd were men with about 15% girls if not gay, were straight girls accompanying their gay friends.
The dance floor can get pretty heaty especially with guys having full-​on making out session by the stairs, literally selfishly obstructing the pathway!
I’d come here for good people watching experience, the DJ plays good contemporary music too.

On a Sunday night there was a few dozen people watching a karaōke comp.
Really not my scene. Drinks were expensive and the lighting made the whole place feel cheap and bright. Just… …no thanks.
Perhaps it’s better on a big night, but I don’t know that I care to find out.

A gay bar in the heart of Darlinghurst. I went here one night as a room mate warming ceremony where everyone was meeting eachother and having a drink for our new place. It was great. I really enjoyed dancing on the totally packed dance floor. When you go out for a cigarette you go onto this tiny balcony that fit about max 10 people. They have a couple of bars and pool tables, so it’s well-​equipped. The atmosphere is dark and there is opportunity to meet new and interesting people — everyone is happy to have a chat. The bar staff are fun and very exotic and hot looking. They have a full bar and a range of cocktails are available. As the name suggests this is a late night bar, good for around or after mid-​night.
