The Bookshop Darlinghurst

This is my favourite bookshop in the entire world.
This bookshop sells general fiction, but in particular it stocks mostly LGBT+ interest books, DVDs, magazines, coffee table books etc. It is THE place to go to if you can’t a book of LGBT+ interest everywhere else. I spend hours and hours trawling through the entire store to find gems. The staff are always extremely helpful and they know everything! The bookshop also has a loyalty programme which I find to be extremely rewarding.
I just love this place. What can you hate about a place that promotes love?

Great and friendly queer bookstore. It has everything from general classics to best sellers, mag, DVDs, and pulp. I always find something to interest me; it never disappoints! Staff is happy, friendly, and helpful.

I really liked this small shop.
They offer a ton of great books, many of which are hard-​to-​find. Whether the subject is science fiction, biographies or travel, they offer a good number of books, most of which are specific to the LGBT community. The customer service was good and helpful. The Bookshop is open late on Fridays and Saturdays so it’s a perfect spot to browse later in the evening.

Darlinghurst is a hub for the gay and lesbian community; it’s a fun and tasteful area that knows how to host a party. So it would only be appropriate for there to be a vibrant gay and lesbian themed bookshop in the area.
The Bookshop Darlinghurst has been around for yonks, over twenty years to be more specific. It has made its mark amongst locals and it seems that the people who work there are on great terms with the clientele.
Readers interested in gay, lesbian and bisexual related books can be thought of as a niche market, but if there is something to be found on the subject this owner of this bookstore will find it.
An employee I chatted with at the store spoke highly of the owner, mentioning his ability to track down rare and obscure publications and movies. It is this kind of dedication to constantly find new and fresh stock that keeps the regulars coming back, there will always be something new to inspire them.
The idea behind the stock is that it in some way engages its audience. Whether it be a novel published by an openly gay writer, or a romantic film about a lesbian couple, or a magazine exploring bi-​sexuality.
These things are not usually touched on in mainstream media as much as they should be.
The Bookshop Darlinghurst caters to a community that is under-​represented, in a location where gay and lesbians can feel proud.
They’re open until 11 pm on Friday and Saturday nights and pretty late other days so plenty of time to check it out for yourself

The bookshop must be the gayest bookshop in Sydney (this is not a negative remark). If you are looking for some mild to wild titillation this is the bookshop for you!
They must stock every hunky and naked man calendar under the sun and a massive selection of erotic books of men. They also have sections of gay and lesbian fiction and also gay interest, so if you are searching for a book on Liza or Judy, this is your shop.
The Bookshop also has a large DVD section featuring many gay titles and they often have sale titles. Also if you have a look at the back you might find something interesting in the sale section.

Did I just walk into a gay adult book store? I’m not actually sure.
I think so. There were posters of men, gay tales novels, and Ellen Degeneris.
But there was also other novels and magazines too. And there was no warning upon entry that I was entering some place unsavoury or particularly oriented. Well maybe that’s it. Maybe it’s a normal book store, that just happens to have an unusually high content of material of a certain nature, tailored for those of a non-​heterosexual orientation.
Tyler, that’s an gay adult book store.
Sigh, ok, maybe it was. Anyway, if you’re not worried about connotations or questions being asked, or eyebrows being raised in your direction, have a browse. Though if you’re a straight guy like myself, you may not find anything worth while.
