I used to like this little café and their pastry and coffee and sandwiches. But when I met the owner and saw her rude and disrespectful attitude, I decided to not go back anymore. You would think that this is a person working there and just hates people and wants to sabotage this business. But then you learn that she is in fact the owner! If you are just picking up food or coffee and don’t mind making business for a very rude and disrespectful being, then that’s your choice; but I would not want to help a business owner who treats people so badly. There are so many other bakeries and cafes around and I would choose to go to the one that is doing a good job, not only in baking and selling pastry, but also in spreading goodness beyond the bread they bake. P. S. They also have a policy that does not allow customers to stay more than 45 minutes(no matter how much you spend or how many unoccupied tables there are in the shop).

Probably the shittiest coffee shop that I’ve been to with the rudest manager. I ordered a coffee and a piece of pastry and sat there for a while until she came to me and told me to leave because it is 45 min per person for a table and that was a policy. Wow, that was rude and she was very hostile while saying that so I preferred to leave immediately. Never go there!

A friend of mine from work was house sitting in Richmond for a little while would walk past this bakery in the morning, pick up a fresh baguette, hop on the train and head into work. She offered me some of her fresh, chewy baguette which if I closed my eyes I could have believed that I was almost in France. Since that first introduction I have come here many a time for their bread. I am yet to try their selection of cakes which is very unlike me but I am sure they are very good.

The little bakery really does live up to its name and offers a lovely array of pastries and cakes that are exactly that — almost French! Inside, the décor is sparse but does resemble an old French café. There are enough tables inside to cater to the lunch crowd which is when this little café gets the most traffic. I ordered the egg and bacon sandwich and was pleasantly surprised when it was delivered to the table, nice and hot. I don’t mean warm, I mean hot! Which would have been nice on a cold day but it was 30 degrees out and I would have preferred to have been warned about the hot meal. Taste wise: nothing fancy but we hear its the cakes that please. Ask anyone who frequents Swan Street or has lived around here and they’ll tell you. Try the vanilla-flavoured mille feuilles and the mini profiteroles for a sampling of the Almost French spirit. It’s not quite French, as its name suggests but it’s a good try.
