I decided I feel like Indian for dinner. After checking out the nearby suggestions on Unilocal, the Flavour of North India looked quite appetising. I had the $ 15 Special consisting of my choices being Chicken Tika Masala, Curry Chicken and Palak Panir from the Bain Marie. The flavours were alright as they blend well together on the bed of rice. One gripe is that the food could have been hotter. Normally I would ask for my meal to be heated, but I was hungry and there were a lot of people all ordering at one time. The garlic naan was edible but not served hot either. The Coconut Lassi was the highlight of the meal and it was a change from my normal choice of mango.

After reading John C’s review, I was craving some Indian. Coogee was on the wayhome so it was an easy call to stop by the Flavour North Indian on Coogee Bay Road. What caught my eye was a ‘Specials board’ outside offering 3 choices of any dish in a large serving with added Naan bread(plain or garlic) and your choice of drink or a Lassi. I chose the Mango Lassi. All this for only $ 15! This was a dinner time bargain, since a large 3 meat dinner is $ 11.90 by itself. The food was tasty and fragrant with cardamom and cumin spices. The majority of dishes choices were mild and definitely not too spicy hot. I requested Butter Chicken — but there was only the sauce left. I recommend that any sold out dishes need to be replenished or removed. What should I try instead? Next choice was the Beef Curry with some Mango Chicken and a vegetable option of Pumpkin Masala. This was served over a generous serving of white rice. The place was constantly busy with both dine in and take away customers — a good sign that this business is doing a good trade.

This evening I had a delicious Mango Chicken at Coogee’s Flavour of North India. I often don’t enjoy Indian food, So I am very pleased when I find someone serving dishes I enjoy. I think it is just that sometimes I find the food too hot. Anyway the Mango Chicken I had was cooked beautifully, which a nice balance of flavours, being sweet and mild. I particularly enjoyed the desserts, we shared a couple. The Barfi, I had never had before and is the Indian version of cheesecake was very good and I always enjoy the Kulfi, which is Indian ice cream(if you like ice cream, you have to try it). Overall the meal and service was excellent, I would definitely go back.
