Another real favourite pub of mine, the PP had that ‘scruffy exterior /nice interior’ thing going on before it became commonplace, with peeling faded paint on the walls facing the Vic Parade exhaust-factory reminding you that these inner-city pubs carry a lot of history inside. It’s one of our ‘footy pubs’ that me and my mates frequent before and after games — a 10 min walk to the MCG seemingly scaring off the bogan throngs that must filter in places closer to the ground. Staff is always friendly and welcoming, it’s vibrant without being too busy, and the pub grub has never let me down yet. Ideally they would add a few more taps and beer variety, or at least rotate more frequently to mix things up, but it’s a small complaint. Yet to partake in a trivia night yet but one started up around us recently and it looked like good fun that we’ll likely come back to try. Note: I have extreme bias as have been lucky enough to celebrate several of my team’s Grand Final victories here, so The Prince Pat will always have a special place in my heart for that alone!

Sometimes I think to put a pub right on Vic Parade is a bit crazy. You’d have to do a lot inside to make people forget the highway they’re on. The Prince Patrick did exactly that. Made a beautiful modern interior, more pubby up front with a huge tv and bar, and more intimate in the back with dark woods and modern lights. And then, way out back, there’s a beautiful garden. And for weirdos like me, if you sit up front, you can stare at the Porsche dealership next door. Swoon. They do good pub food; fish and chips, and a super delicious steak sandwich. And their wedges? No joke, the best I’ve had. They showed up, unordered at our table, and we all thought they were complimentary. Half through the bowl, I went and asked, and the staff realized the wrong table got somebody’s food. We were so happy to pay(and then order another bowl)…that’s how good they are. Fried perfectly, Cajun seasoned, and comes with sour cream and a delicious spicy capsicum spread. Classing it up, guys! I’ve not tried the fancier main dishes, but if the great twist on the wedges is any indication, I think they’re capable!
