Atmosphere — this is why you come. Dine in an old train car on top of a roof. I thought it was a really cool concept. Quality of food — burgers were very good. Chips sprinkled with chicken salt were also good. Service — fast with no issues. Value — normal. $ 50 for 2 burgers, one small chips, chicken tenders and 2 large cokes. Get the $ 5 large Coke as it is really is large. To note — No alcohol on Sunday’s before 6pm. Make a booking on their website.

I’m an avid follower of Jimmy’s Burgers on IG and knowing I was going to Melbourne with a bunch of guys, knew we had to stop by Easey’s. We made a booking online for the train carriages and that was pretty seamless, so pro-tip: you should make a booking if you want to sit in them. The venue is cool… real cool, as is the service. Everyone here is chill and accommodating and they even have Coors Light on tap. Winning. Décor: 5⁄5 Service: 5⁄5 The menu is pretty straightforward and you can customize your burger however you want which is a bonus. I got the Double Easey Cheesy with a Potato Rosti which they said has never been done(muahaha) It went… OK. Burger is on the small side and the toppings were decent, but the meat was overcooked and bland. Was a bit disappointed after having high expectations. The mac and cheese was good as were the fries, but the chicken was poor. Definitely a cool place to hang out and munch, but burgers are better elsewhere.

This is an interesting place with an upstairs housing a converted Australian railway carriage. Great views from here of Abbotsford and surrounding area. Place serves mostly American style burgers. Recommended for the upstairs unusual décor or if you like American style burgers and fried chicken. A lot of restaurants seem to be going this way but I hope it doesn’t last, this style of food isn’t something you want to have years on end due to its high carb and fat value. You have been warned.

I’ve been wanting to stop by this place on my last few visits to Melbourne, and I’ve finally had a chance to get here. The main reason for wanting to visit was dining in an old Melbourne train. Sadly, this was Sunday, and I was somewhat rudely informed when I arrived downstairs that I should have booked in advance. Anyway, attitude aside, the staff upstairs were substancially more friendly and personable. Service was quick, fast, and the food was marvellous. I can absolutely recommend their Changz Chicken Sanga, which was a simple and flavoursome burger, with a perfect chicken fillet with crispy skin to boot. The price was right, not too much inside the burger, and a bun that holds up all the way through the eating. And of course the ambience. Yes, the idea of eating inside or amongst a train carriage might not be everyones’ idea of fun. But it’s interesting, and makes for a nice change. Word of advice: If it’s busy and they’re going to seat you outside on the roof, give Easey’s a miss on a hot day. There’s no shade sales out there, and it can make it quite uncomfortable.

I have to admit, I was a massive sceptic when trying out Easey’s for the first time. From the rave review and the fact it’s the brainchild of one of Melbourne’s undisputed burger King’s, to the crazy fit out(graffiti everywhere and Hitachi trains fitted on the roof only to name a few features), and the fact that you have to book(unlike most of the best burger joints that just focus on making the best burger possible) and the staff carry iPads and earpieces(again, unlike any of the best burger joints). As it can be seen, I was doing everything I could to not like this place because it was so different to everything else seen in Melbourne so far. However, after the first bite of the double patty beef burger, all the negative thoughts went out the window. I was seriously impressed. No burger(maybe except for 8bit) came close to being engineered so perfectly. Every ratio ever thought up by burger lovers(ie. meat-to-bun and cheese-to-meat ratios) were spot on. Every single bite was amazing. What was also amazing was the price. I can’t quite remember numbers, but both times I have been there the burgers are more than reasonably priced. The beers however, unless you’re happy to drink Melbourne bitter, is not so reasonable. But that doesn’t matter since the burgers were that good. On a side note — the chips were okay. Definitely complimented the burger, but nothing special.

Second time attempting a visit to Easey’s today. Turns out to be not so easy after all. Firstly i have to say how excited i was to see Melbourne with such a cool venue that looked from afar to potentially be international. Well, first visit many months ago we were quite abruptly told from ground floor that nothing is available on top. Of course we wanted the train top experience so decided to spend our money elsewhere on that day. Today’s visit we were greeted by a friendly chap on ground floor who commented he didnt think any inside tables were available but invited us to walk up the stairs to the top and possibly get a seat outside. Up we went only to find we could have caught the lift but for some reason were asked to walk. The outdoor area was feral to put it politely. Looked like nobody had cleaned since last night session. We observed approximately 5 or 6 empty tables, some with reserved signs, some not. We could only see one waitress at this stage so waited for her to finish taking a groups order where she sat down on the table with them and had a good old chat including a great long story about why they cant serve alcohol on sundays. We lingered around her from all different angles eagerly awaiting some basic eye contact. Someone else came in from outside looking frustrated that they also had not been observed or served. After no shorter than 5 minutes of almost standing on top of her we decided to leave. Of course at this time she gave us our first look but made no attempt to engage us. If this too cool for school attitude is indicative of this venue then i might just buy a quarter pounder and hop on the sandringham line. Chooot choooot, se yaz Easeys.

Trains are a cool novelty. But I got the chicken sanga. The bread was stale, chicken was dry and bacon had become jerky. Told the guy at the bar he said it was a sandwich not a burger so it doesn’t have to be nice :(

The good: Tender burgers that aren’t too big, aren’t too small, and have the classic Macca’s-like ratio of beef to pickles to bun with just the right amount of condiments. Potato cakes and chips that are sinfully deep fried, crispy, and salty. A hip, cool atmosphere with one-of-a-kind seating in old renovated trams four stories off the ground. The bad: Mac and cheese that tastes like microwaved Kraft cheese singles and a butane torch. The ugly: A 30-degree restaurant; dripping sweat while trying to eat greasy awesome food; grumpy customers and servers trying to survive the heat. Either come here in winter or picket this place to get air conditioners as cool as the interior. tl;dr: come for the burgers and the atmosphere, definitely worth a try in the hip part of Collingwood.

What a find. 4 stories up, take your seat in an old school train carriage that should take you back to your high school days… At least the seats are clean on this one! Great beers on tap(although everything ran dry while we were there — sort that out guys) and typical burger and diner style food, the only let down here was the slightly chaotic and disorganised way the team went about things. We waited about 45 minutes for our booked table — not great. The food is good and the burgers were dirty and delicious. The potato cakes were the best I’ve had in my life. Skip the macaroni cheese — tiny portion and not the best. Sigh. The hunt for delicious mac and cheese continues! The novelty of sitting in a train carriage up in the sky is the real winner here. It was fun. Go during the day when the views are better enjoyed.

Coming from the states, this is the best burger I’ve had since being here. American style and delicious. Prices were fair and service was quick and friendly. It’s also really fun to sit up on the rooftop either in the subway car or just outside. Big fan of this place.

I really wanted to love Easey’s. Four levels high, with an old metro train carriage converted into a diner style eatery at the top, what’s not to love! The food unfortunately let Easey’s down. As everyone else has said, the setting is really cool. You can catch a lift rather than hike up the stairs & for bigger groups there’s some big rooftop tables outside. There’s also downstairs area which is still a pretty lovely setting, just minus the train & the view. It gets really busy but they have easy online bookings on their website. The menu is American-style burgers with two vegetarian options, plus some snacky stuff(Mac n cheese, fried chicken). The double cheeseburger was pretty spot on & up there with some other American style burgers on offer in Melbs. Unfortunately the fries were underwhelming(& served luke warm), as was the fried chicken(not enough flavor). We were there early when they weren’t too busy so I can’t blame the kitchen being run off its feet for the let down. That being said, the experience of being sky high in a train with a view over Collingwood, Abbotsford & the city is worth a visit to Easey’s. Maybe just have a burger & a beer.

A place to try just for the expericence but in terms of tasty burgers, it wasn’t that amazing. The setting is great and eating in a train carriage on a rooftop is something you definitely can’t get elsewhere but the too easey burger felt like it was too heavy in bread. The menu items are your standard american style burgers with an aussie twist of dim sims and potato cakes. It definitely leaves you feeling super full if you get the lot!

Hadn’t heard of this place before coming. So I wasn’t excepting much from here, but I have to say I was surprised at how good the service and food were. The burgers are one of the best I have had in ages.

Great place, train cars awesome, nice staff, food average. Wife liked basic burger, my eggplant was tasteless. Everything is face and finger food so messy as hell. No drinks in trains on Sunday until 6pm, due to neighbours. Conclusion, visit once and bring non-foodie tourists.

On a date with an architect, we speculated 100 ways the Easey’s 4-story restaurant might have been designed. How does one manage to get train cars on the roof of a tall building?!? Easey’s is quickly making a name for themselves with big, unapologetic burgers. I’d give 5 stars on the Double Easey alone: it was PERFECT. It’s a shame the staff and total experience bring the average rating down. The chicken bites and chicken burgers are fresh, smokey and hot, definitely a highlight. The fries are ok but far from great — we were literally trying to knock the salt off of them they were so overdone. Fries are also strangely portioned, where the sizing options are either tiny or big enough to kill. Fountain drinks with free refills made the long wait more bearable in spite of the hopeless wait staff. Venturing upward it is the real highlight of Easey’s: old Melbourne train cars on the roof, turned bar + dining area. They’ve preserved the vintage seats but reworked it into a functional and fun space. The ladies’ bathroom on this level is very cleverly done. Reservations are a must for this section, but if you rock up you can still go in for a peek. Staggered across 4 levels, a bar, a takeaway counter, two separate menus(I have not sampled the vegan menu from the ground level)… Easey’s clearly has a lot going on. I think it’s got great potential and is worth a visit, but for this trendy /grungy diner I’d definitely suggest going with a reservation and a lot of patience.

Honestly, I think this place is all about the setting, not the food — it’s a labyrinth of rooms and floors stacked on top of each other, crowned by two old-school train carriages on the rooftop, with excellent views out to the Melbourne skyline. Eating in a stationary train carriage atop a building felt a little strange — I kept expecting the train to start moving. I was also tempted to show my myki card on several occasions. Gah. Long story short, though, aside from the cool setting, I don’t think the food is anything to write home about. I’m vego, but I was there with 5 burger-loving friends, and none of them were blown away by their beef burgers. I think Easey’s is probably less of an amazing eating place and really just more of a good place to come and drink a couple of beers with friends while checking out the unique setting. FYI, for large groups who can’t squeeze their collective cheeks into the interior train seats, there are two sections of long tables outside to provide the typical hipster Melbourne rooftop drinking experience. Service was also very good, even though they were slammed-busy when we got there. Anyway. Highly recommend for the creative setting, but not for the food.

Limited seating options, and given its new found popularity(in part from the gigantic train carriage gimmick on the roof) you’ll want to get here early to get a good spot. Staff seemed a little unsure – when asking for a Double Easey with their veggie option(a potato cake) we were told that, no, the veggie option only applies to the basic Easey, the exact same burger but with only one patty. They were very confused. The potato cake option sounds delightful, but in practice was soggy and flavourless; there are definitely better veggie burgers going around for equivalent prices.(And yes, I’m aware that asking for a veggie burger is considered sacrilegious by some, but Easey’s decided to offer the option) Atmosphere is okay – they had some good music playing on the speakers, and it was a pretty casual place to hang out for a while. Food came quickly, but the quality and quantity was just not as good as you’d given the price range.

This place has only been open a short time but it already seems to be evolving. The menu has changed to obviously make it easier for punters to just get a burger(don’t have to think about all the things you want to add to what was the basic Easey’s cheese burger) and I’m sure it makes it a hell of a lot easier for the staff and kitchen crew to just bang out those burgers. After being kinda spun out on our first visit(theres a lot of different floors and rooms) I found it a little less intimidating to go there a second time. My burger was again really good. I’m not a massive brioche bun fan so this place automatically rocks my socks cause the ain’t using brioche. I heard rumours that they do the dim sims, pop tarts and other deliciously deep fried side in a beer batter made with Melbourne Bitter. I had to try, I grabbed a serve of the dim sims and they were bloody good. I’d go back just for the dim sims and a cheeky beer! It’s super casual, its a themed venue without being super kitch, the music has been awesome old school hip-hop both times I’ve been, the burgers are great, it’s licensed and you can book. For a casual dinner out whats not to like.

Unapologetic dirty burgers meets creative graffiti /hip hop /subculture vibe, it’s no wonder the people keep flocking to Collingwood’s newest rooftop restaurant. The hidden wonders inside Easeys keep the locals coming back — excellent coffee, genuine service, winning selection of brews and spirits and of course the masterpiece — a train on a rooftop! Fare raw food menu is creative and stark contrast to Easeys, offering organic plant based sweets, breakfast, lunch and smoothies. This way Easeys can stay true to what they’re all about. Something for everyone! Make sure you book if it’s the train you’re after, but the place is huge so if you’re more flexible then roll through any time for your fried food or raw food fix. Windows are tinted and it seems hard to find from street level but just remember it’s the 3rd train(coming from Smith). And how are the burgers? Good quality meat, lots of sauce. Burgery

It’s been a long time coming for those of us that have been waiting for Easey’s to open since the train carriages were spectacularly placed on the building roof some time ago. After a few false starts, and a pop-up, the doors are now very much open for business. No need to mind the gap.(Will save further train puns for other reviewers!) The Easey Cheesey burger is the focus of the simple menu, with a few additions to bulk it out. Take them, as we tried one normal and one with bacon and jalapeño and the latter was very superior. Those used to a bit of kick will want to add some of the chilli sauces too. Fries were nice but small serve only really suits a single person so get the large if sharing. The motto, as the name of the street and the place serendipitously suggests, is simplicity. And starting at $ 6 you can’t begrudge if it is missing some of the bells and whistles other local burger places may offer, but at the end of the day it’s kind of just a notch above any other cheeseburger if I’m being honest and ignoring the hype: more American diner than In-N-Out. The fit out though is terrific and cool — graffiti covered walls, train ticket tables, and of course the carriages themselves which are even more impressive when you take in the Collingwood and city views. Will be back for some beers soon to soak in more of the new cool kid on the block vibe, and it’s definitely somewhere to take visitors to wow them, but I wouldn’t go back just for the burgers alone(not when there’s a Rockwell double smash right around the corner anyway…) Fit out and vibe = 5 stars Burgers = 3 stars Thus, settled on a 4.
