A friend and I were sucked in here one monday evening by their half price cocktail selection… Shoot me in the face, where to start… All the mains average around $ 23 and heres my first tip, order one main between two people. It will be quite sufficient. This is a quantity over quality restaurant. We ordered an open souvlaki and the fish and chips and between our McMassive plates we could have fed a family of four. The rest of the menu is pasta, grill meat and fried chip heavy. The regular customers look a little Kath and Kim on a noice night out. Its basically McDonalds for adults. «Awkward parking»??? There is a whole service street for parking and more around the corner next to the brothel(not a joke). On the PLUS there is polite service and a wide gutter to vomit in after you’ve gorged on cheap cocktails and half a roast lamb.

Um, well, what can you say about a place like Mosskito. The servings: unnecessarily big which rather than impressing me, makes me feel guilty about the fact that I, nor my friends, can EVER finish a meal. The service: There are a million and 1 staff members and while they are trying their hardest, the meals are so BIG that they can generally only carry one or two at a time, so it is a little slow. The venue: Like the food it is big and a let down. And tacky. Sorry, but this place is a No Deal-er.

This place is hilarious. Mosskito occupies this amazing Art Deco building in Clifton Hill(Deco buffs will know the one, it’s a ripper). The focus here is on family groups and the place is often overrun with children while parents get their lunch on. The tables are huge and who knows how many people the room can accommodate, but it’s a big space. The food is Mediterranean in inspiration and it’s pretty pasta and salad in that respect. I’ve only really frequented the place for takeaway coffees as it’s opposite a pretty major tram and bus junction and the café over the road is often flat out. Mosskito always seem to have that extra pair of hands to whip up a coffee on the fly and that sort of summates the place in my mind: basic place with good service and family atmosphere. Take ya Grandma.

BIG! That is the one word that sums up the Mosskito experience perfectly. This large space triples as a restaurant, bar and lounge and has an industrial vibe to it yet manages to appeal to families as well as groups. Now if you come here to eat make sure your hungry. I’m talking a hunger so epic songs will be written about it… sequel to «Hungry Eyes» perhaps? The potions are huge! Really huge. The food is okay. Not 5 star dining but casual restaurant good. Solid. The blue bar is well stocked and the range of drinks available is vast. There is a projector screen that plays major sporting events, it may distract some, but to me is just part of the jumble of different reasons people visit Mosskito for. Service is okay but not memorable. Overall: it will fill you up but not ensure your return. You can find Mosskito behind the large Clifton Hill McDonald’s where you may also want to park or if not then Clifton Hill station is near by.
